Cape Town protest turns violent

2012-05-28 12:21

Cape Town - About 800 residents of Botrivier in the Western Cape took to the streets on Monday to protest against poor service delivery, police said.

Warrant Officer November Filander said teargas had to be used to disperse a violent crowd, which blockaded two entrances to the town.

A man was arrested for public violence.

      phathuchicos - 2012-05-28 12:46

      lolest...nice one.

      Peter-Peter - 2012-05-28 12:53

Its a ANC 'governed' ward in the WC

      Dries - 2012-05-28 13:28

I disagree with the number of prostestors quoted as 800. I was there and nowhere near that figure- probably 120 to 150.

      jonathancfarrell - 2012-05-28 15:28

      drama queens!

  • Andre - 2012-05-28 12:35

It is the duty of the police to protect the law abiding citizens of the country. They must not allow the citizens to be held at ransom by a few people who are unhappy. They voted for the ANC, they must do their fighting at the voting polls, and not the streets!

      Marcelle Janse van Vuuren - 2012-05-28 12:39

year after year people vote for the ANC, and year after year not one promise are kept by them. why do you still vote for them? you chose them now you want to complain. you people made your beds now sleep in it!

      TSOTSI Smilification - 2012-05-28 12:44

shm... inst Botrivier a ANC led area? So the DA cannot do anything for these people! :( I hope the poor folk in the townships all vote DA next time around!

      Nosiphom - 2012-05-28 12:52

Tsotsi, good question, is it an ANC area or a DA area. Rmember the western cape has a few ANC run councils and the councilors there spend more time trying to make the DA look bad instead of doing their work!

  • johns54 - 2012-05-28 12:47

Send them all to the Northern Cape or Limpopo. I am sure they will be much happier.

  • phathuchicos - 2012-05-28 12:47

omg...Did I hear correct...PROTEST IN CAPE TOWN???????????. I thought everything was hunky-dory with the Fuhrer in charge.

      Piet - 2012-05-28 12:52

Go back to your country fool.

      Jono - 2012-05-28 12:53

its a ANC run area clown!

      phathuchicos - 2012-05-28 13:00

      duh...who does the delivery?

      Andre - 2012-05-28 13:06

Everything IS Hunky-dory in the Western Cape, it's only the ANC areas that are all still stuffed up, but, by the next election those idiots will have come to their senses, seen whats going on in the DA run districts, and vote with their brains instead of their bums!!

      Stirrer - 2012-05-28 13:14

Misleading article! Botrivier is about 90km away from Cape Town, and as far as I know it's an ANC controlled ward.

      Ashley - 2012-05-28 13:15

@The-Ass-anian, you are as thick as a garden chair....leave the comments page for the adults and go outside and play in the sandpit.

      djmain1 - 2012-05-28 13:20

Duh - nobody is doing the service delivery BECAUSE it is a cANCer ward! Phansi cANCer, phansi!!!

      Bibi - 2012-05-28 13:38

@Azanian: the WP is the only province who got a clean audit from the auditor-general (ANC appointed) on all levels. About 2000 migrants (let's) not use the word refugees, but that is what they are) come from other African countries and provinces on a weekly basis so how can one stay ahead?

      Fanie - 2012-05-28 13:45

      ANC ward twat

      Sekalf - 2012-05-28 13:51

Phatuthedzo Tshikosi (alias Azanian) - Are you old enough? Your brain capacity does not indicate... ! Looking at your FB subscriptions tells something - My advice is to pass puberty before trying to stir. - and stay where you are ;)

      Nosiphom - 2012-05-28 14:20

Right Azanian, no one is doing the delivery because the ANC is involved in sabotage to try to prove that there is no delivery - political expediency at the expense of the people.

At least it isn't a problem like in the other provinces where you will more likely have these protests....

      Kagiso Spat Truthtell - 2012-05-28 13:38

wat abt the strikes in Khayelitsha..Hout wat wat and Gugulethu??? u retard

      James - 2012-05-28 13:55

@Kagiso, after reading your comment, all I could do was wonder who the retard is!

  • Nigel - 2012-05-28 13:01

People are protesting all over the country because they are not happy. They feel they're getting a raw deal and I agree with them. If all the people of SA could just agree and stand together, instead of voting emotionally, then we (all SA people) would be the winners for a change. We can vote a party into power, and we can vote them out by voting for someone else. By now, everyone should be voting for another party because the ANC has failed. If the party fail, we vote them out by voting for another party. Eventually politicians will understand that they better get it right or they will be voted out. Now, to somehow get all our people to stand together. This will probably never happen due to fear, racism, a very sad history, blind loyalty etc etc. What a pity, because this is the weakness our politicians are exploiting, and why I believe most of the poor are still poor, and also why in the big picture, their conditions have not change much. There has been improvement here and there, but not nearly enough.

  • Johan - 2012-05-28 13:23

This is very bad reporting! From the headline is would seem that this is in Cape Town while Botrivier is far away

      Fanie - 2012-05-28 13:45

      AND it is ANC ward

      mihaip007 - 2012-05-28 14:57

@fanie: that would complete the report properly I must add..! Really poor reporting..!

  • Bibi - 2012-05-28 13:26

Where did 800 protesters come from - it was just the other day when Botriver had 20 whites and about 40 coloureds?

      mihaip007 - 2012-05-28 15:00

lol - you are right man hehehe! If you look at (don't know how much one can trust that) it would seem that approx. 20% of it;s population is up in arms..! Oh and it IS an ANC-LED ward lol...

  • Kagiso Spat Truthtell - 2012-05-28 13:37

Lmao DA governed province and municipality failing the poor in the Western Cape this jst shows u wat would happen if DA was to rule the country...they would ignore black ppl en serve their white ppl, Mazibuko would be given a loaf of bread and fired and Maimane given a position as security guard to keep his fellow black ppl out and headbutt them.

      Surfing - 2012-05-28 13:47

Sorry dude, once again it is an CancER run ward.

      James - 2012-05-28 14:01

Wow, you really do have your head up your ass don't you? Muust be from the eastern cape (no offence intended to the decent folk from EC) because your below average education is very apparent from your use of language. You have no idea how the boundry lines within a province are drawn or even who is actually in charge of the reported ward!

  • Craig - 2012-05-28 13:37

Cape Town is about 100km's from Bot River which is a little spot on the map!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There cannot be as much as 800 people living in the town

      Peter-Peter - 2012-05-28 14:03

Rent-A-Crowd? or No 1 speed dial of the ANC?

  • Phumi - 2012-05-28 13:50

We should all support the call to reduce the number of provinces and the metros to ensure that service delivery reaches all. It is clear even to the retards that the Da is not fit to govern! They cannot even control the tick and gangsterism that are spiralling out of control in that province. Hence rendering it a national security threat to the country as a whole!

      Steward - 2012-05-28 14:12

And that is why the other provinces will never come right. It was mentioned about ten times if not more that this is a ANC run municipality. Which part of that didn't you understand? Or do you want the DA to do ANC's work for them also?

  • Ken - 2012-05-28 14:10

Botrivier falls under Theewaterskloof municipality. Election results in 2011 were DA = 13 and ANC 9. To find out more about the challenges facing Botrivier have a look at
