Cape Town - A Cape Town woman accused of killing her partner with his own crutches has appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate's Court, the Cape Argus reported on Thursday.

Helen Thomas, 54, was reportedly charged with beating Lionel de Robillard, 50, to death on 4 June.

According to the Cape Argus, he was seen by neighbours crawling naked down a pavement in Marina da Gama, trying to escape, but later died in hospital.

Thomas reportedly appeared in court on Wednesday, when she heard that medical reports, photographs of the crime scene, and a blood spatter report were still outstanding. The case was postponed until 26 August for investigation.

Yikes! That is one angry woman to have done something THAT cruel... Poor guy... (but it does make me wonder what set her off?).

      Punungwe - 2013-07-25 13:35

Nothing is worthy the beating a man on crutches to death. She is just cruel. Straight to the GALLOWS. That is what she deserves if SA law had backbone.

I agree Punungwe. To kill someone with crutches surely take a lot of strength and time. To me that shouts 'intention'. It was surely a cruel way to die for the said man

The fact that someone is on crutches does not make him defenceless or non-aggressive. She may have whacked him in self-defence. This story definitely has 2 sides to it. Unfortunately we will only be able to hear one side now.

Actually - I wasn't trying to put blame on anybody - I was just wondering what makes a person lose their ability to feel empathy for another human being to the point where they would beat him to death with crutches? Was she "retaliating" or is she just one of those unfortunate beings who have no humanity in them what so ever... What ever the reason - a poor man has died in a brutal fashion and the law must now take over her fate. And THAT is fodder for another worry... :(

Lionel had a hip replacement a year ago and had a stroke a week before she attacked him. She had in past attacked him with a hammer, and why she attacked him with crutches because she asked for money for cigarettes and he didn't have money due to the fact that he wasn't working because of the stroke(his words before he passed away). He was in bed when she started beating him. He is my fiance's Uncle.

      Lyndatjie - 2013-07-25 13:03

Then she must be NAILED for what she did... I hope she suffers as much as what he did!

      Kadesh Barnea - 2013-07-25 14:06

Were you there at the time?

      Angela Marr Davidson - 2013-09-27 15:51

Helen was a tiny little lady, and the relationship was very destructive. She has a son and her little boy had to protect his mother from being attacked by Lionel on many occasions. For all we know she did this in self defense. There are 2 sides to every story!

  • Brian Lindsay Garrett - 2013-07-25 14:27

How f-n hard do you have hit a person with a crutch to kill him? must have been really pissed, lol!
