Cape Town - A Cape Town minibus taxi owner has 238 outstanding warrants for his arrest and owes more than R150 000 in unpaid fines, The Cape Times newspaper reported on Thursday.

Sibusiso Funisela, whose taxis operate from Nyanga to Wynberg, Table View, and Cape Town, appeared in the Cape Town Traffic Court on Wednesday after being tracked down and arrested, the paper reported.

His taxi drivers tallied up the outstanding warrants of arrests against him with their traffic offences.

"It is so frustrating to be here so often... I tell my drivers to stop this but then I am here again," Funisela reportedly said.

He had been paying weekly visits to the Gallows Hill traffic department to pay off fines between R850 and R2 500, the paper reported.

Funisela, from Philippi, was released but would have to appear at five different courts in November, the paper reported.

When questioned by journalists, he would not say how many taxis he owned, how many drivers worked for him, or why he did not shut down the business or fire problem drivers, the paper reported.
