Johannesburg - Forty-one people were arrested during patrols and roadblocks around Cape Town at the weekend, metro police said on Monday.

Deputy metro police chief Yolanda Faro said the arrests were mainly for drunken driving.

Officers issued 441 traffic fines and recorded 30 by-law offences.

"One suspect was also arrested on charges of crimen injuria when officers responded to a complaint in the Cape Town CBD."

Three people were arrested for possession of drugs. One was caught with dagga in Maitland, another was found with 18 packets of tik in Hanover Park, while the third was found with heroin in Heideveld.

Those arrested were scheduled to appear in various courts on Monday.

City of Cape Town Metro Police, well done but please keep it up and unlike only national Xmas and Easter reactive law enforcement which as you will note is on leave until Easter, let's be proactive in the Western Cape in our efforts to influence a road safety and responsible road user culture with consistent and sustainable law enforcement.

I hate to be cynical, but I hope they look at the police as well? In our region, they only work over the Christmas period, as there is no money for 'over-time'....

Well done. Take their licenses away for three months for a start. Next time for a year. Zero tolerance to drunk drivers.
