Cape court declared safe after threat

Johannesburg - The Western Cape High Court was declared safe on Wednesday morning after a bomb threat, police said.

"At about 10:30 the building was declared safe. No suspects were arrested," Captain Frederick van Wyk said.

The building was evacuated and the police's K9 and bomb disposal units were deployed around 09:00 after an unknown man called the police with a "tip-off".

It was the second court in Cape Town to receive bomb threats in the past 24 hours. On Tuesday, the Wynberg Magistrate's Court received a bomb threat in the same manner. The court was evacuated and later declared safe.

Van Wyk warned that people making hoax bomb threat calls would, if caught, be criminally charged.
