Johannesburg - One prisoner was shot and killed and another was wounded on Sunday as they attempted to escape from the Lansdowne police station in Cape Town, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said.

"There was an attempted escape when a police officer visited the cell area and he was overpowered by a prisoner who was being held there," spokesperson Moses Dlamini.

"The prisoner wrestled the keys from the policeman and then he let loose another four suspects. They tried to escape and police shot and killed one suspect who was being held for the possession of stolen property."

Another man who was being held for housebreaking and theft was wounded during the shooting, but he managed to escape.

Damlini said three other prisoners were recaptured.

The IPID has opened two dockets for investigation - one for murder and one for attempted murder.

They should have killed them all, bloody criminals, it's sickening how criminals want to do as they please, isn't it enough that we have criminals in parliament?

When they are put in the cells, the guards should get 3 free shots per prisoner :-)

I think a torture chamber, where anything goes. It cud be done in the same way as a theme park. General public can come have some fun, making use of a whole range of weapons. Start with rapists, murderes and armed robbers. Alternatively, start with the 'small' crimes like theft, and 'level up' like a game to the serious crims.

So the police are getting charged with murder and attempted murder. Once again criminals have more rights than those who choose to uphold the law. Well done government!!!

That is so true! If they had gotten away they would have been up to there wicked deeds again. They should be saying thank you for doing your job and not letting this piece of rubbish escape on to the street

De should just give that policeman a Bells rather than opening a case of murder and attempted murder...

How is it that the thieves in our government are not sitting in jail? Is the difference that they do not do it with guns in their hands?
