Carl Pistorius denies guilt

2013-03-27 15:17

Vanderbijlpark - Carl Pistorius, brother of murder-accused Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, pleaded not guilty to a culpable homicide charge in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Prosecutor Johan Venter told the court the main charge against Carl Pistorius was culpable homicide.

The first alternative charge was reckless or negligent driving, and the second one driving without reasonable consideration for another person using the road.

Magistrate Buks du Plessis asked Pistorius to plead on the first charge.

Standing in the dock, arms folded, looking at Du Plessis, Pistorius said: "I plead not guilty your worship."

He pleaded not guilty to the two alternative charges. They relate to an accident on 8 March 2008 that led to the death of 36-year-old Maria Barnard.

The court heard she died in hospital on 14 March 2008.

The State proceeded to call its first witness, Anton Coetzee.

Carl's appearance comes a day before Oscar Pistorius is expected to challenge the bail conditions the Pretoria Magistrate's Court imposed on him.

The court granted Pistorius bail of R1m on 22 February after he was charged with the murder of his girlfriend, law graduate and model Reeva Steenkamp, in his Pretoria home on 14 February.

Carl Pistorius's trial resumes.

"And the second alternative charge: one driving without reasonable consideration for another person using the road." All taxi drivers are guitly of this charge and should loose their licenses.

Of course he is not guilty. Someone died. He caused it. Terrible "accident". RIP Maria Barnard.

      Anton Anton - 2013-03-27 19:34

Maybe just maybe she caused the accident and drove into the back of his vehicle, and just maybe she was under the influence of alcohol

Anyone who stands in the dock with his arms folded while he addresses a magistrate shows he has no respect whatsoever.

Were you there. If you saw this then the whole family has contempt for the law.

      Silvia Van Eck - 2013-03-28 12:41

Gerald, Au contraire. It can mean more than one thing. I suggest that you read up about body language. Yes, it can mean that they are defensive or hostile BUT it can also mean that they are insecure or nervous. And last but not least it could just mean that they are cold. I do that quite often..

      colin.ashby.35 - 2013-03-30 12:43

Were you there. If you saw this then the whole family has contempt for the law.

There is no reason for this story to be in the media just because of Oscar...but I'm sure Carls new found stardom will be of some benefit in the future

      Edwin Amsterdam - 2013-03-27 17:33

  • Louise Barnard - 2013-03-27 19:02

Ag get off your soap box and leave Oscar and his family alone!!!! He made a mistake and his brother had an accident!!! Yes she is dead, like many other south africans who were actually brutally murdered!!!!

  • Anton Anton - 2013-03-27 19:26

Margie either you and the Nurse are very close to each other or maybe the same person. You are obsessed with The Pistorius family. Read the story of Carl very carefully then you will see the biker crashed into the back of Carl's vehicle. She was so near him that she could not stop according to a fellow biker. So wonder what lies are there to according to you

      Anton Anton - 2013-03-27 20:58

Yes I do read the articles. But I do not comment on the article but on the crap you talk
