In one of the less sanitised Women’s Month events on the calendar, Fairlady Magazine played host to celebrities, public figures and the media at its Women of the Future Awards at The Maslow hotel in Sandton.

The event, chaired by TV personality, motivational speaker and competition judge Gerry Rantseli-Elsdon, brought together women involved in small and medium-sized enterprises. But this was no business affair. Rather, it was a delectable three-course luncheon and a chance to mingle.

Before the event began, the red carpet was abuzz as competition entrants mixed with such celebrities as Dineo Ranaka, Jen Su and Claudia Henkel. There was particular excitement about the presence of Public Protector Thuli

Madonsela, who was one of the judges of the event.

Madonsela was immaculately dressed in a black pants suit, accentuated by a gold statement necklace and neon-orange chunky heels.

Fairlady editor Suzy Brokensha gave an empowering speech at the beginning of the event about the challenges women continue to face.

“The goal is equalism, but feminism is the way we get there,” she said to rousing applause.

In the end, it was the winners who most enjoyed the event. An award was given to Afrilink HealthCare’s Boitumelo Ntsoane and another to Amy de Castro of successful watch brand Bamboo Revolution.

The 100 or so guests were treated to wonderful service by The Maslow staff. All in all, the event was a great success and a great celebration of women’s achievements.
