Johannesburg  - Police are on the lookout for a gang who bombed an ATM at the Eldoraigne Village Shopping Centre in Centurion, outside of Pretoria according to an Eyewitness News report.

Security guards were apparently held-up by a number of men early on Saturday, who then bombed the cash machine.

They were interrupted by police and a shoot-out ensued.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said the robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

N24 : The truth please...Since you spoke to an eye witness, why don`t you disclose the make/model of the vehicle used including a description of the suspects...The type of spent cartridges at the scene and the time it happened this morning. Maybe then the community and law abinding citizens can get involved by helping the police catch these criminals.

Why cant these ATM machines be place inside stores,to bad if people want money out of them at night, they should have drawn it during the day, at least inside a shopping center or store this would make things a little harder for the robbers to blow them up, and normal humans would be a little safer when they draw their hard earned money. No more ATM'S in the streets or pavements or side walks, they are responsible for a lot of hold ups and killings.

No Carolyn that is not the issue. The security guards should have radio remote controls to activate silent alarms at their control offices. The issue here is is that the security companies are slipping.

In this case the security guard did have a silent remote and he did trigger the alarm which is hy the security and police were on the scene within minutwes.

The ATM bombing did not happen at Eldoraigne Village (which is located on Saxby Ave), but apparently at the Spar on Willem botha rd. Should think the whole of Centurion heard it as it was realy quiet at 4 am.
