Chaos as miners denied bail

Johannesburg - Chaos erupted outside the Kathu Magistrate's Court in the Northern Cape on Friday when Kumba employees were denied bail, SABC news reported.

Mine workers reacted after their colleagues, arrested on October 16 for seizing mining equipment at Kumba Iron Ore's Sishen Mine, were denied bail and were told they would remain in police custody until November.

Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) provincial secretary, Anele Gxoyiya, urged workers to remain calm.

Her comments triggered an outburst of threats to get rid of the National Union of Mineworkers' and Cosatu's leadership.
