Durban - A group of Chatsworth school children made a grisly discovery on Tuesday, when they came across a decomposed body near their school.

The scholars raised the alarm with staff at the Pinewood Primary School, who then called police to the scene.

The body of a man, naked from the waist down, was found lying on his back in thick grass.

Police officers from the Search and Rescue Unit recovered the body after the crime scene was examined by forensic experts.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane confirmed the discovery.

"A decomposed body of a 30-year-old man was found behind Pinewood Primary School. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death. An inquest docket was opened at Chatsworth SAPS for investigation," he said.
