Chicken truck crashes in Joburg, lanes closed

2015-07-24 08:26

Johannesburg - A truck carrying chicken pieces overturned on Johannesburg's busy M1 north on Friday morning, leaving the driver and two passengers injured, Johannesburg Metro Police said.

Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the accident between the Jan Smuts and Empire Road off-ramps had led to two lanes being closed.

Emergency Services were on the scene to also help clear the road, but Minnaar said he could not immediately confirm reports of people looting the chicken pieces.

He advised motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

The driver and the two passengers were taken to hospital for treatment.
