Child rape accused hangs self before trial

2013-07-25 09:36

Johannesburg - A man who was set to go on trial for raping 34 minors and two women hanged himself in his cell at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Sifiso Makhubo, 42, was found dead in his cell by police, eNCA reporter Karyn Maughan tweeted.

Maughan said that many of the child rape victims turned up for the trial at the court on Thursday.

He was expected to plead to 122 charges against him, the National Prosecuting Authority said.

The charges ranged from rape, kidnapping, murder, and robbery to attempted murder through HIV-infection.

The crimes took place in Kathorus, east of Johannesburg, between 2006 and 2011, when Makhubo was arrested.

      whatever themba

      Bheki Dladla - 2013-07-25 10:11

@Themba, whether there is hell or not or that Jesus will return or not is neither here or there POINT is that he(the accused) has made us very happy. we are sick and tired. finish n klaar

      Gya - 2013-07-25 10:11

Corrupt politicians must follow suit. Nkadla gate, Gupta gate all gates

      Foc Us - 2013-07-25 10:13

ALL accused should be issued with strong ropes and they should install strong hooks in the roofs of the cells .... that way we will be able to catch up with the backlog in our courts and save a fortune in legal aid fees currently sponsored by the tax payer.... over population in our jails will be sorted as well ....

      jeremy thorpe - 2013-07-25 10:15

It's just a pity that he had to hang himself. Assuming he was guilty as charged, the State should have hanged him...... Death was the only option for such a presumably foul creature!

      Poloyatonki Kgosi - 2013-07-25 10:26

Gya .. Yes I agree, and those who were never punished for apartheid sins must also follow suit...

      Darryl Maze - 2013-07-25 10:27

      Best news of the day.

      Trevor Myburgh - 2013-07-25 10:31

Themba, his spirit has jumped on someone else already, but he is in hell alright......... Look at what condition this world is, only a fool will believe there is no hell.

      Heathway Masters - 2013-07-25 10:33

Was the right and moral thing to do, considering the magnitude of his crimes. Wish more criminals convicted of heinous crimes against society, would do the same. Certainly a fitting alternative now that the death penalty is no more. Each cell for such people, should have a hangman’s noose hung on a sturdy hook in the corner, to make such decisions easier to carry out.

      Barnabus - 2013-07-25 10:38

      that's without doubt Happy

      Chreamz George - 2013-07-25 12:05

By virture of quoting the scriptures form your bible, what if he submitted himself before "God" and asked for mercy for his "SINS", just before he hanged himself????. He'll probably be forgiven, his life spared and welcomed to "HEAVEN" with open hands. Isn't what the bible say?????. How judgemental from christians. I don't condone what he did, am just stating the posibilities.

      Cherri Pye - 2013-07-25 14:03

@Poloyatonki - as long as you're including the likes of the Magoo's Bar bombers and the St James Church massacre culprits, then yes, I agree they must be executed.

Guess GUILT became too much of a burden for this sick psychopath to bear....

      jeremy thorpe - 2013-07-25 10:17

I don't think it was guilt. More likely it was fear of what would happen to him in jail....and the fact that he would never be released!

      Themba Majawonke Ntuli - 2013-07-25 10:47

nice point and guilt also played some, the human mind is a powerful thing.

  • Don Master - 2013-07-25 09:43

Justice finally done. Hope it was his fellow inmates that hanged him and made it look like suicide. To the rest of the rapists out there we are coming for your balls (sharpening my scissors and knives)

      Dylan John Barsby - 2013-07-25 09:53

Do you really think so? I've always thought that the absolute worst thing you could ever do to someone is to put them through so much mental agony that they decide to take their own lives.

      Brad Herbert - 2013-07-25 09:56

Justice has been done. He got what he deserved. What if he got off due to a technicality? Now we can all be 100% sure that he will not do this again. I hope as a burial, they thow him in a bin

      Bheki Dladla - 2013-07-25 10:01

put yourself in the victim's shoes. trust me they are happy and so are we!!

      John Johnson - 2013-07-25 19:45

Estelle, Estelle how noble of you. Wonder what your comment would have been if one of your kids had been a victim.

      LizK - 2013-07-26 11:04

Estelle your comment is an insult and an abomination to child rape victims everywhere. What sort of a human being wishes for a child rapist to "rest in peace"? Perhaps you should be more concerned with the peace that the victims and their families will never have again due to this monster.

He should have done that way before he decided to hurt and traumatized those poor soul. He knew his life was worthless and there was no hope, why ruin other people's lives if you know you're a failure from word go ? I wish more criminals could do the same whenever the thought of murder, housebreaking or hijaking comes to mind
