Children celebrate Mandela's legacy

Johannesburg - Scores of children and their parents arrived at former president Nelson Mandela's home in Houghton, Johannesburg, on Saturday to pay their respects.

Samantha Smith, the mother of 7-year-old Janine, smiled as she watched her daughter dance in a circle with other children.

"It is because of him [Mandela] that our children can live freely," she said.

"It's a beautiful sight to see children celebrate Madiba's legacy," said onlooker Keagan Mason.

Other children paid tribute to Mandela by writing personalised cards and placing them in a sea of flowers and messages.

A drawing of Mandela accompanied a card reading: "Dear Tata, thank you for the freedom. Love Simphiwe."

"We love you Madiba," was the message the Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children attached to a large teddy bear.
