Children used in sex videos, court hears

2010-12-08 14:15

Pretoria - Two children were directed during the making of pornographic videos, the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court heard on Wednesday.

"They told the children what to do during the making of the films," State prosecutor Tanya Carstens read to the court from a statement by investigating officer Tania Lourens.

Lourens said that on October 12 the two children - who had been previously fostered by two of the eight accused - complained about being victims of rape and child pornography.

Both children were subsequently medically examined and the reports indicated they had been abused since a young age.

Forensic investigators have seized large amounts of material from the properties.

Lourens commented on the house of one of the accused: "It looked like it had never been cleaned and... had a strong smell of urine. There was very little food in the house. The income that the accused said he earned from pig farming was inconsistent with the amount of animals on the property."

Bail hearing

Two of the women and one of the men shook their heads as Lourens' statement was read out.

Carstens said bail should be denied as the eight would be at risk from the community.

Wednesday was the second day of the bail hearing of the group, aged between 26 and 61, arrested in connection with a string of child pornography charges.

They face charges of rape, indecent assault, sexual grooming of children and possession, manufacturing and distribution of child pornography.

Those arrested included a grandfather, 58, grandmother, 57, their two sons from previous relationships, aged 34 and 36, the grandfather's brother, 61, and his wife, 42, and their mentally disabled son. The 26-year-old wife of one of the sons was also arrested.

According to reports six children, from the age of 4 and older, were allegedly used in sex movies which were then distributed.

Four other children have been removed from the care of the accused and are undergoing psychological and medical examinations.

The State is investigating the possibility of a connection with a pornography syndicate.

Advocate Naas de Jager complained to Magistrate Pierre Wessels that the Pretoria News had published photographs of one of the accused, and that although the picture was of the person's back, they were still identifiable to friends and family.

He also complained that some of his clients were not receiving necessary medical treatment while in custody. It emerged on Monday that a number of them had heart and blood pressure problems.

De Jager said the pigs had been removed from the home of one of the accused by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

"It looks like a case of severe intimidation," he said, also claiming that the removal of the animals deprived the families of an income.

    speechless... - 2010-12-08 14:57

They should be locked up with like minded bullies i.e. rapists and murderers. Every night when these convicts are having fun with them, the prison wardens should turn a deaf ear to their pathetic screams for help. Now that would be justice served.

      cynthiasteyn0 - 2010-12-08 16:26

We want the photos of these vulgar pieces of sh1t!!! Name them and shame them!!

      colleenjnicol - 2010-12-09 13:47

No, give them medical attention so that they can serve there prison sentences in hell -

      colleenjnicol - 2010-12-09 13:48

How can everyone in a family be so sick???? The defense will use he excuse that they too were abused. It has to stop somewhere and I say life without parole for each and everyone of them.

  • sbouttell - 2010-12-08 14:29

Looks like a severe case of protecting scum.

      RonelEksteen - 2010-12-08 15:13

      i agree

  • chichizo - 2010-12-08 14:40

No BAIL!!!!!!They were meant to care for these children, not to abuse them.

      lian.fairy - 2010-12-08 15:48

I agree!! By the sound of the conditions they were living in- how on earth could they have handed them ANYTHING to look after!?!? Rot in a big hole dug out in the desert, not even in jail!

      barry7777777 - 2010-12-08 16:54

I absolutely agree, these people do not deserve ANY decency what so ever....they are a shame to the human race and should be put away for good. Just thinking that they exploited harmless children for their own selfish greed is enough to make me sick!!!

      Susannomore - 2010-12-09 06:36

Perhaps you should read it again. They were denied bail, which means that they are still detained (in jail) and their application was unsuccessful...

  • squeegeepilot - 2010-12-08 14:43

    String them up!

  • Tresia_Nam - 2010-12-08 14:46

Wat the hell is becoming of this world... this is sick sick!!! TOTALLY DUMBTRUCK by all this!!

      Gen-Mewmew - 2010-12-08 15:18

this has been happening all over the world for years, its been this way since forever. its not only happening now. and it will keep on happening untill the end of time. its something we cannot stop, because it is hidden so easily by intimidating the victims. they become to scared or ashamed to cry for help. its the sad reality of this world we live in.

  • Grant Wright - 2010-12-08 14:49

They must do all they can to find all the porno material. This material is used to exchange information within what is called "THE CIRCUS" for sexuall grooming. Once a pedophile has had enough from one kid he will then send on to the next and so it carries on. The sick *uckers should be sentenced to death for what they did to the poor kids.

      Gen-Mewmew - 2010-12-08 15:20

yeah they certainly ruined their lives for good. from what iv found by doing quite some research, many foster homes abuse the children in their care. poor kids...

  • Emma - 2010-12-08 14:50

They deserve everything coming their way.....Why give them medical attention, after all they have destroyed the innocent life's of children. May you rot in a South African Prison. These people should be named and shamed (Photos please) why are we trying to protect them???

      cynthiasteyn0 - 2010-12-08 16:28

My sentiments exactly! They don't deserve any medical help at all! They DO NOT have any rights as there were none for the kiddies!

  • Carolyn - 2010-12-08 14:50

They should all get the death sentence, life is just what they want, and then they will get out on so called good behaviour. Sis man, you are all lower then the lowest scum on earth.

  • Max - 2010-12-08 14:51

    Ja, neh.

  • AyeAye - 2010-12-08 14:52

There is an old saying: The wheel will turn. If one or two of the accused are found to be guilty via DNA and certain visual evidence, then I can understand that, but all 8, questionable. Facts must be made sure of and the fact that they were only arrested about a week ago, if they are so much, also does not make any sense. Surely the teachers at school would have noticed something wrong, unless PT (physical trianing/execices)is completely taken out of the schools, these days. If however they are all quilty by means of visual proof, DNA and or just by helping and keeping quiet, I hope you will really think about how you have messed! up more than one person's life: mentally, physically and emotionally. How sick! you really are and I will let God deal with you in His own way as He sees fit.

      Pamela - 2010-12-08 15:30

Even if they are not guilty on the pornography charges, they are guilty of abuse. The house was not fit for human habitation. They are already guilty of putting children in an unfit environment.

      Susannomore - 2010-12-09 06:39

The teachers did notice something wrong, went to Social Services, and that is how these people were bust. What DNA are they doing to use. There is nothing to indicate that there were ant specemins left inside the children. You are right - God will have his day...

  • maja - 2010-12-08 14:53

      sbouttell - 2010-12-08 15:02

Unfortunately not possible - it broadcasts who the children are, and that is not allowed. That's why there have been no pics. The names will come out sooner or later, but it's not good for the children.

  • wanitafisher0 - 2010-12-08 14:56

How did they get to foster the two children in the first place? Who approved them to be fit to foster these children?

      Gen-Mewmew - 2010-12-08 15:21

      yeah wow.

  • Walker Plumbers - 2010-12-08 14:57

I say let them out on bail so we can hang these sick low lifes. Then again they must be getting the worst treatment behind bars anyway .. I hope big Sipho is having a good time with them !

  • Jules - 2010-12-08 15:55

  • Souq - 2010-12-08 15:57

  • paula1bornman - 2010-12-08 16:04

who cares about their so-called "medical conditions"? they're fit enough to rape young children...let them die from their blood pressures & hearts and rot in prison. they don't deserve an income, for all i care they can starve!! these people are not human - they're evil beings or demons disguised as human beings

  • Martha - 2010-12-08 16:58

It is worse than murder...they have killed and destroyed lives while the victims are still 'alive' Our laws should change so that this can be handled as first degree murder.

  • bjanks - 2010-12-08 20:05

At least I know that rapists are loved in Jail... Enjoy! What goes around comes around. Give them life in prison so they can also know what it feels like to be forced into sex. Just ask Mr Brown. Bring them to cape town, We have many prisoners looking for some fresh meet MMMMMMMM!!!

  • Snoopy88 - 2010-12-08 20:56

You'd think the social workers would have kept tabs on these kids that were fostered and checked out their living standards... The fact that they had been abused for a long time is just unforgivable. These social workers have not been doing their jobs! I'm now convinced more than ever that we should administer mass contraceptive to the entire human population and that everyone should be subject to a complete background check up, etc. before being allowed to reproduce. You will have to prove that you have the means to raise, protect and love a child. You don't have to be rich but you need to be comitted to a lifelong labour of love. We need to protect the innocent children because the victims of today will become the criminals of tomorrow!

      Susannomore - 2010-12-09 06:43

The social workers are supposed to, but for as long as anyone can remember, this is a problem area, simply as there is no manpower. Most areas are 70% understaffed. But hats off that when a problem was brought to their attention, it was acted on. At least they managed to find the time considering the other sick cases they have to try and deal with...

"Advocate Naas de Jager complained to Magistrate Pierre Wessels that the Pretoria News had published photographs of one of the accused" - So what?!?!? I say publish the photos of the idiots so the public can see who the idiots are!!! "He also complained that some of his clients were not receiving necessary medical treatment while in custody." - Ag shame, the poor people... Hallo, they are child pornographers, they deserve no sympathy!!! Think of the wonderful treatment they will get when they go to prison, they probably won't last very long... "claiming that the removal of the animals deprived the families of an income." - lol, I can't stop laughing at the stupidity of some advocates/lawyers. Do they really deserve an income? Do they even deserve to be represented at court? Do they deserve public sympathy? They raped and groomed kids for crying out loud!!!!

  • ericavw - 2010-12-09 07:33

They should use the drink and drive add to show pedos what will happen to them in prison.

  • Jules - 2010-12-09 11:05

These people truly are the lowest form of life. I hope that not only do they all get convicted but also that the authorities can find out who the material was distributed to. Those watching this kind of sick video should also get what they deserve - life in prison. If only the death penalty was legal........

  • gilliansan - 2010-12-09 11:31

i dont understand how the state just gives foster children to random people.. they make decent families go through years of red tape and hell to adopt children while placing these children with sick foster parents... the laws on adoption needs to be seriously looked at..
