Church rape case postponed

2013-03-28 17:53
Johannesburg - The bail application of a Zion Christian Church member accused of raping a woman was postponed by the Mankweng Magistrate's Court on Thursday, Limpopo police said.

Police spokesperson Moses Molepo said the application was postponed to 19 April because the investigating officer was ill.

The alleged rapist was arrested on 3 March after a 27-year-old woman claimed he held a knife to her throat and raped her during an all-night prayer session at the church's headquarters in Moria, near Polokwane, on 2 March.

It was initially reported that the man was a prophet, but the church has denied this, and said he was an ordinary member.
