Clergyman, daughter's fiancé murdered

Johannesburg - Two men, one of them a minister, were killed in an attack in Harrismith and one man has been arrested, Free State police said on Friday.

The 60-year-old clergyman was in the living room of his home with his wife, son, and daughter's fiancé when three intruders entered on Thursday night, said Sergeant Mmako Mophiring.

His daughter was not in the house at the time.

The assailants locked the reverend's son in the bathroom. He was not hurt.

The daughter's 25-year-old fiancé was shot in the head and died at the scene.

The reverend was wounded and taken to hospital. He died on Friday morning.

Details unclear

His 59-year-old wife was taken to hospital, but it was unknown if she was shot or assaulted, said Mophiring.

"We have not yet taken statements from the family, so I won't be able to tell you if she was injured.

"We also don't know if anything was taken from the home. Only they will know that."

Police were alerted after the attack, and a man covered in blood was spotted by police walking on the N3 highway.

He was found to be in possession of five cellphones and a firearm. One of the cellphones belonged to a member of the family.

Police hoped his arrest would help them track down the other two intruders.

Mophiring said it was unclear if a getaway car had been used or not.

Yip... Welcome to SA! You cannot even enjoy a family get together without worrying about being murdered in your own bloody home! Thank you ANC for keeping the crime low and making this a safe place to live in! Especially if you are white and elderly!

How sick. Please state that the thief was covered in his victims' blood. How cruel were these assaults? No wonder none of the victims 'can/is able' to give a statement. Come on policemen, do your jobs! Wake up S.A., this is called ethnic cleansing!

Bloody parasites, I think its time that we took this into our own hands, and got a search team to go out and kill these bb before the police can rescue them and then the justice system lets them out on bail or they ask for a plea bargain and get off Scott free. Kill them all.

One of the cellphones belonged to a member of the family. Wake up police! Yet another tragic story of the lawlessness in this country and the incompetence of the people who are there to prtect and serve!

A wake up is a tall order! This will get 5 minutes press. 2 days onvestigation and the file chucked onto the mountain of unsolved cases. Or there will be a technicality for them to walk scott free!!!!

the weak, innocent, good, hardworking, forgiving and tolerant people are the one's being killed in SA. We need to arm ourselves, be extra vigilent and shoot to kill. It's either them of you. I'd rather live with the knowledge i killed to protect my family than see my loved ones dead by the hands of someone who wants to steal a cell phone or a laptop. I'm surprised they didn't take time to commit a rape while they were at it (amateurs).

What do all of you with the shrill voices and the race tinted glasses have to say now that the guy's son's been arrested?

      niki.wessels - 2012-11-10 09:43

I was thinking much the same when all of them were jumping to conclusions, even before arrests were made. The son being unharmed when the others were attacked so brutally seemed suspicious from the start. FFS, I wish South Africans of all races would drop their medieval prejudices and realise we are all people.

      kobie.nel1 - 2012-11-10 09:44

Just be carefull that it is not a black child that is adopted as the liberals like to do, we do not know yet, but as I commented to you on the newer article: Omnivore, I'm getting seriously worried. I'm a racist and white supremasist, but you got a damn good point. Whites are losing it, and it looks like a certain age group. To me it looks like they are falling backwards from civilasation. Lack of disipline, examples set,...? Then there are the DNA factor as possibly in this case. Then there is the so called "human rights" that subtily allow peole who need to be under special supervision to walk free on their own. Thankfully I'm old and lived the most productive part of my life in a 1st world civilised environment.

      kobie.nel1 - 2012-11-10 15:03

I see my other comment was removed on the other article where acomparison is done about black on black, black on white, white on white, white on black crime. I think the comparison I draw on the intellegence level of the liberal and the main crime culprits caused the comments to be removed. Must be on the same level not to be racist. Take into account that 10 of my friends and family, that I know of, has been murdered by blacks since 1994, and our family onley knew death by natural causes before that. But yes, to still "believe' that blacks are equal to whites in commiting murder is simply idiotic, or on the same intellegence level at least of the main culprits. My problem is that our white children apparently get pulled down to the same "African way" mindset. And yes, to look at the figers and fax is not at all pc and must not be shown, so remove the comment.

      kobie.nel1 - 2012-11-10 15:47

Then, the person with the bloody clothes and the .22 weapon that was picked up in the road suddenly does not exist for the liberal pc persons that have so much compassion for the blacks here. Let me take a educated gues and tell you lot that he is black as will be the others that the police are looking for.

Very sad for everyone who came from H/smith and who knew the family. I went to school with Martin. He was arrested for suspicion of planning the murder. Ds Brits was a very kind person. A little town shattered.
