Cocaine found in man's bra, panties

2011-07-12 22:30

Johannesburg - A UK man with cocaine stuffed into a bra and pair of panties he was wearing was one of six alleged drug smugglers arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Tuesday, police said.

Spokesperson Captain Dennis Adriao said the six all arrived on the same flight on Tuesday afternoon. They were discovered after being "profiled" by airport security.

"This is standard procedure, they profile everyone coming into the country."

The 57-year-old man was joined by a 34-year-old Ghanaian, who had hidden the drugs in the handle of his suitcase, and four Brazilians, two men aged 31 and 34, and two women aged 27 and 29. They had strapped the drugs to their bodies.

"We don't know what the exact value of the drugs are yet, but we estimate it's worth a few million [rands]."

Adriao would not reveal where the flight had arrived from. Further investigations would tell who the six were working for.

They would appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court within 48 hours.

Get him to eat the contents. He won't do it again. STUFF IT DOWN HIS THROAT. I'LL PAY FOR HIS CREMATION

      majordad.007 - 2011-07-13 06:34

Don't pay for the cremation. Charge him for it. The delivery of drugs is only one link in the chain of misery (high, what HIGH?). Clean this scourge.

      ian.teall - 2011-07-13 07:24

We will never know the value of the cocaine as it will go 'missing'. As for the bra.........well, we know what position he is going to take in the prison system!

      willieman - 2011-07-13 11:04

We tired of this people who abuse are hospitality, send them to the gallows we will discuss the merit of the case later

      Phiwe - 2011-07-13 13:31

that's the sort of brutal meathead stuff apartheid officials would have done! Somehow things dont work like that anywhere in the world and all the better lest we be accused of torture.

  • John Paul - 2011-07-12 23:00

Looks like they missed the connecting guard...

      Creeky - 2011-07-13 06:30

That Bra he was wearing... is it called a Bra-sier or a MAN-SIER? HAHAHAHHA!!

      PunkBuster - 2011-07-13 13:37

If I were him i'd be more embarrassed about the bra and panties than the drugs. Whats you mother gonna say dude???

  • john - 2011-07-12 23:01

Seems like he was so looking forward to meeting Pappa that he dressed for the occasion.

  • OZNOB - 2011-07-12 23:19

Make him eat his ill gotten cargo and burn the rest on the spot.or better still make him eat it on tv to show the public that he found out the hard way that drugs do kill. perhaps a bit brutal though it is the only way the druggies will realise that what they are doing is not kosher

      johncarlos.biza - 2011-07-13 04:20

People who gave u a thumbs down must be dealers

      2c - 2011-07-13 10:00

johncarlos, seems there are more druggies and dealers than you initially thought there will be.

      Orcanda - 2011-07-13 16:10

These people are drug mules. The Kingpin dont care what you do to them. They use them as decoys while they get arrested, others slip through with more drugs.

      BrixtonBriefcase - 2011-08-06 21:49

Sure...while we're at it let's make all alcoholics drink themselves to death in town squares as well. Or get them to down a bottle of Klipdrift and put them on Kyalami together and watch the bloodbath on live television. Maybe that will satisfy our bloodlust and make us feel better about our own inadequacies? Addiction is a disease, and a terrible one at that. Until society starts treating it as a possibly fatal but curable condition, the cycle will never be broken.

  • jock - 2011-07-12 23:39

They profile the people? How many men with breasts come into the country every day ?

      YasButIDunno - 2011-07-13 06:59

Profiling probably means they detected the falsies when he turned sideways and saw his profile. Three bumps instead of two :)

      TGSA - 2011-07-13 07:14

I seem to recall that in Europe a few years ago, the 'profilers' discovered that often, 'beginners' were used to carry drugs, often caught while the 'professional couriers' just walked through, with lots more drugs than the 'beginners' carried. Maybe same thing here? Cannot believe a man wearing a bra and thinking he would not raise an eyebrow, so-to-speak?

      navarac - 2011-07-13 08:32

If I were to wear a bra, I would also have a different profile.

      Daemos1 - 2011-07-13 12:44

I see men with breasts everyday, we're an obese country

  • Bush Dweller - 2011-07-12 23:54

      Airborne68 - 2011-07-13 09:35

      Daemos1 - 2011-07-13 12:45

      Diablo7 - 2011-07-13 15:18

I would say more like Cape Town behavior...

      Barry - 2011-07-13 17:38

@ Bush Dweller LOL I did not even think of that but I would go alng with Diablo7 Sounds like Capetown behaviour to me. From JHB

  • Veld66 - 2011-07-13 00:02

They always blame africans for crime!!!!sad people

      Freddie - 2011-07-13 00:38

Are you sure that he isn't an 'african'? Just because he travelled on a UK passport. I seem to remember that not so long ago, the ANC Speaker of the South African Parliament travelled on a UK passport.

      Kuhle - 2011-07-13 01:49

Urgh no please! Can I read one article that doesn't turn into a racial screaming match. So what if he was 'african'? The other was Ghanaian and the rest Brazilian? Big deal - this is not a circumstantial situation, they were caught with drugs! @Freddie - please don't indulge such'll only encourage more stupid comments

      Stuartthom - 2011-07-13 04:54

last time i looked Ghana was in Africa. Unless there has been some major tectonic plate activity i have missed

      Daemos1 - 2011-07-13 12:46

Sorry Khule, n24 is all about empty bickering, go to if you want to see people actually commenting on the stories

  • Brett - 2011-07-13 04:20

As a cross-dresser he should fit right in when he goes to prison!

  • Kevin Rack - 2011-07-13 04:50

Most smuggling is done via shipping containers or private jets. In South Africa it mostly comes via Mozmabique's nothern ports. These guys are either decoys for the larger run or got tipped off by the bigger players whi dont like infringement on the their territory.

      2c - 2011-07-13 10:09

@Kevin. You are right. Private planes to dfrom Mosambique is the most popular route. I am a private citizen and I know this. Why dont we read anything about Police catching them. Just like we know Long Str in Kempton Park is the main route to other offsets. Shows you how corruption stifles catching criminals. If a cop can take a bribe of R100 for a R500 fine, just imagine the pay off amount on a load of coke worth R1 million.

      Daemos1 - 2011-07-13 12:46

Yeah, this wasn't a drug bust, it was sleight-of-hand

  • coconuts - 2011-07-13 06:12

wearing bra and panties in prison will give the inmates a thrill - I have no sympathy for the reception he will get in jail.

      Dros - 2011-07-13 11:27

mistook the phrase "Coke adds life"... in prison

  • Lyndatjie - 2011-07-13 07:03

Extradite them to a country that hands out the death penalty for smuggling drugs... our legal system will just release them back into society within a couple of months or even days.... Wait for the paperwork to go missing again.... :(

  • preshengovender69 - 2011-07-13 08:02

      BRAD24 - 2011-07-13 08:21

chi chi-they are nigerians with false passports.

      JustinD - 2011-07-13 09:42

There bosses are Nigerians, in fact 95% of the worlsd's scum comes from Nigeria.....

      2c - 2011-07-13 10:12

JustinD, and we as plain citizens know this and yet they get entrance to this country in their hundreds every day.

  • whatno - 2011-07-13 08:44

Its good to know that effective procedures are in place in our air ports. These people must stop taking chances, assuming SA is a land of all crimes. Well done to the Security Team there.

  • biskit - 2011-07-13 08:50

OMG at a lost for words...Idioooooot!! haha

  • chi chi - 2011-07-13 08:56

what people don't understand is that police can do their job when they want to. if they can be working in this way all this drug etc will be reduce.

      BRAD24 - 2011-07-13 09:28

chi chi-drugs will kill you.Stop it NOW.

      2c - 2011-07-13 10:17

Chi Chi I think you must shoo shoo. If a cop can take a bribe of R100 for a R500 fine, just imagine the pay off amount on a load of coke worth R1 million.

      shagrance - 2011-07-13 14:53

I get your point Chi chi about the police and its true but I think it would be nice if Nigerians were n't allowed in this country at all. Where ever Nigerians go there is always a problem and I dont care even if the arrested guy was from UK but one thing for sure is there is a Nigerian involved as well..

  • Enigma - 2011-07-13 09:00

These must be the most dumbest criminals I've ever heard of. All of them in one plane with drugs and thinking they won't be caught. Let them smoke those drugs till their lungs and hearts stop and feed them to the lions @ Kruger National Park!

      Totman - 2011-07-13 09:19

Nope. Usually when 1 is spotted and caught the airport security's attention gets pulled to that incident. A += 16% change to be the one that get caught, if any, was it maybe a good enough change for them. Specially that they thought we, South Africans, will not touch a man dressed in woman undies.LOL!!!!

      Totman - 2011-07-13 09:19

      Mend +-

  • sunny - 2011-07-13 09:07

  • lollie sue - 2011-07-13 09:38

  • Daffy - 2011-07-13 09:44

Idiot...the simple fact that he was wearing a BRA made him stand out to security...hahaha, he really didnt think this through

  • Bidartbru - 2011-07-13 09:50

"We don't know what the exact value of the drugs are yet, but we estimate it's worth a few million [rands]." Direct translation..."We are seeing how much we (ANC Govt Officials) can steal and sell for ourselves."

  • chi chi - 2011-07-13 10:33

JustinD, hope u will die poor by calling Nigerians name

  • Fedup - 2011-07-13 10:38

chi chi, someone I new a while back got caught selling one tablet to an undercover black policeman in Hillbrow on old years eve, he should have been locked up but guess what 2 bottles of Chivas whisky did the trick, he didn't even get arrested, so don't tell me the cops are not corrupt

      chi chi - 2011-07-13 11:49

i did not said there is corruption in cops, what am saying is that if they can do there work with honesty, the corruption will be less

  • Charms - 2011-07-13 10:42

Well done to JHB security, should watch Border Patrol on 121 in evenings and see how good Australia's airport security and customs are.

      Andre Grobler - 2011-07-13 16:26
