Johannesburg - Gauteng police conducting a full body search on a suspected Diepsloot robber found a weapon in the man's underpants on Tuesday.

"One of the suspects was allegedly found with a cocked handgun stashed in his underwear," spokesperson Daniel Mavimbela said.

"The handgun was discovered after the suspects were ordered to lie down and a thorough body search conducted."

He was unable to confirm whether the alleged robber was wearing boxer shorts or briefs.

Police arrested the man with the weapon and another man in connection with a robbery on a shack in Diepsloot Extension Two earlier this month.

Three men forced their way into a 32-year-old woman's dwelling and demanded money at gunpoint. They left with an undisclosed amount of cash and other items, but returned soon after.

"The suspects immediately forced entry back into the victim's shack by firing shots to deter the victim from push holding the door," Mavimbela said.

They stole a DVD player and ran away.

"The suspects, 22 and 23, will be charged with attempted murder, house robbery, possession of both stolen property and unlicensed firearm and ammunition."

The police officers who arrested the pair were commended.

"Should they have not spotted the handgun, we would probably be telling a different story."

The third robber remains at large.
