ConCourt gets urgent 'apocalypse' bid

2012-12-12 09:09

Johannesburg - The Constitutional Court has received an "extremely urgent court application" for the appointment of an "investigative task team" to prepare for the end of the world on 21 December, according to a report on Wednesday.

Robert Sefatsa, 38, a Soweto resident, also stated in papers handed in at court that the government needed to form a new department to prepare for judgment day next Friday, Beeld reported.

He suggested that the new state department should be called the "department of paranormal and esoteric sciences".

Sebatsa pointed out that according to the Mayan calendar, judgment day would be on 21 December, and it was therefore a matter of extreme urgency that South Africa and other countries make their preparations for the apocalypse.

A commission of inquiry should include geologists, statisticians, astronomists, economists and extra-terrestrial technologists, and should be competent to cope with evacuation procedures, sea and air logistics, and resettlement, he said.

      christoffvstaden - 2012-12-12 09:38

HAHA - this is HILARIOUS! IF the world will come to an end there will be no one left, there will be no planet to live on so where exactly does he propose we evacuate to and resettle? Rather approach a mental institution as a matter of urgency and save the rest of SA from your stupidity!

      clinton.bowden1 - 2012-12-12 09:42

You joke. Not so long a ago a politician wanted to create a inquiry to understand where lightning comes from. This is just going to give the politicians fuel to create just such an department and fill it with crony buddies.... What we laugh at, they take seriously....never underestimate idjits.

      squeegee.pilot - 2012-12-12 09:45

Pleeeez don't give the ANC ideas about spending more money... More posts, more travel, more gravy... lol.

      The facts:

      mariuskowie - 2012-12-12 10:22

They are not late. The government already built the end of world shelter at Nklandla.

The Mayan calender is coming to an end that's it. What a nutjob, the con court will dismiss this application with the contempt it deserves.

      henk63 - 2012-12-12 17:01

You overestimate the intelligence of the ConCourt. The traditional healers are making inroads, the ancestas are playing a major role in governing the country and "cultural" beliefs are gaining popularity. I gues this guy saw an opening and is just trying to cash in. He knows how gullable the whole lot are.

  • sibusiso.saddiq - 2012-12-12 09:27

And this task team is going evacuate us to what, Mars? Or do they also have to have to have super-powers to stop the apocalypse? stupid people need to stop wasting our time and hard earned money.

  • JanGrimbeek - 2012-12-12 09:28

Bwahahaha, what is there to prepare for if it's gonna be the end in any case ? Sebatsa, I will take care of your money and prepare it to not burn away or drown or whatever, will fwd my bank account number to you, please just deposit all your funds in my account !!!!

  • Alan - 2012-12-12 09:28

Very funny story!!!! I'm sure the same person has already made plans for 2013.

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-12 09:29

The Mayan calender never mentioned the end of the world, but speaks of a new era. A new beginning. Something we can do with in this country.

      thatTallCPTgay - 2012-12-12 10:36

Exactly... the end of the Era (age) of Pisces, and the beginning of the Age of Aquarius.

apart from the obvious irony, the mayans also believed and practised human sacrifice- just another parallel with the ANC...

  • zondra.hoffmann - 2012-12-12 09:54

This is just a ploy to get more of their "brothers", "comrades" and "chiefs" employed quickly to get them in on the "take". Have you actually heard of any Enquiry ever coming to a logical conclusion and has there been "appropriate" action taken? By appropriate I mean if you have been found guilty of tender fraud, (for instance), you should have been sacked without a golden handshake or pension for the rest of your life, and you should pay back your spoils. That will be appropriate, not like what happens - Golden handshake of millions, pension for life, and no prison sentence or repayment at all!

  • becky.jamieson1 - 2012-12-12 10:23

The Mayans were not even Christian!!! How the hell can they predict 'Judgement Day'??? This guy is an idiot for even suggesting such! 'Must prepare for evacuation' Evactation to where??? If the world is ending then there will be NO WHERE to evacuate to. The Mayans themselves have stated that the calender does not predict the end of the world! This guy should read a Bible or something because in the Bible it states NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW WHEN THE WORLD WILL END. I will be dying of laughter on the 22nd when Im still alive and kicking! LOL

      russelllundie - 2012-12-12 11:33

Also, take the little fact that the Mayans did not take the many leap years into account. This mental midget (and the end of the world) is several months too late already.
