Confusion over Pistorius's cop shop check-in

2013-02-25 12:56

Pretoria - There seems to be some confusion as to whether Oscar Pistorius does indeed have to present himself at the Brooklyn police station, a report said on Monday.

Eyewitness News said it had been told by a National Prosecuting Authority official that it was not a requirement of bail.

Despite the State and defence agreeing that the paralympian should present himself at the police station, this is not specified in Pistorius’s bail order.

Police officials have also been trying to establish the details of the order from the prosecuting authority, EWN said.

Arnold Pistorius, the sprinter’s uncle, was however spotted driving past the police station earlier on Monday.

A large media contingent consisting of local and international reporters has gathered outside the police station.

Pistorius was released on R1m bail on Friday.

He has been charged with murder after killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his Pretoria home on Valentine’s Day.

When will the SAPS get there act together??

      boerewors.braaivleis - 2013-02-25 13:20

When the ANC gets their act together which is never

      Tim - 2013-02-25 13:22

I agree, but what does SAPS have to do with this article lol. On topic, these journalists are SCAVENGERS with such SAD lives.

      nurse.helenk - 2013-02-25 13:45

What is so hilarious alicia? The incorrect usage of "there" in susan's comment?

      compos.mentis.58 - 2013-02-25 14:00

@Tim: But you read what they write.

      Tim - 2013-02-25 14:02

timothy.whyte , he has too many assets to just pack his bags and leave. He gave up his 2 passports. If you still say hes a flight risk, his legs need constant maintenance, so he cannot simply disappear. Not to mention he has no incoming funds if he cant compete in athletics. No runnning, no sponsors.

      nurse.helenk - 2013-02-25 14:07

Susan you better watch what you say about the SAPS. You have slandered them now. We are all running scared after last night's Carte Blanche story... Don't say anything bad about anyone online or ask too many questions. You are considered a publishing company just like News24 by commenting on this board. So whatever you say is a News Headline... apparently...

      debduplessis - 2013-02-25 15:56

      and so the CIRCUS continues!

      george.pito - 2013-02-25 19:40

The SAPS has got everything to do with it. Press gathering in tents surely they must get removed. The press are simply interefering with the case. They publish whatver they want. The SAPS leakes information like the poor Hilton Botha telling everybody about Testorone without reading the words. A sport specialist that knows nothing about the drug either or about sports. Cars driving at 215km/h in traffic from court to Waterkloof on a Friday night alla Red Bull racing the car was a landrover and what I saw was Range rover big diffrence. The we have a naive South African public that believes whatver is published. Sorry the SAPS has to do only one thing ensure that the case is taking its course without interference. Cart Blanche put a lot of crap together and so many facts are simply wrong distorting the case and make this country more stupid day by day including the people. Evrybody is now a lawyer or a detective why dont we all go and do waht we are good in.

  • russell.maxwell.180 - 2013-02-25 13:08

Now the reporters are in a tizz wazz, would be interesting if Pis-stories could report to any police station, as long as he did so on the required days. Happy camping. Hope you've got your billy cans.

  • nurse.helenk - 2013-02-25 13:09

Can a legal expert please explain to me the difference between what Magistrate Nair deemed the conditions of his bail and this so-called "bail order"?

      marion.mertins - 2013-02-25 13:59

Isn't it within a Magistrates' ruling-power to implement conditions!?

      Ditoa-re Gypsy - 2013-02-25 18:39

The magistrate orders (verbally) must go to bail conditions (written). Looks like they never put in on the paper, with that he can still gate away with it

These days it seems like Oscar's fart makes headline news... Leave Oscar "Bailed runner" Poorstories alone until the 4th of June. There is Anene Booysen's rape/murder case tomorrow... I hope you will write about it and give minute to minute tweets on court proceedings....

This is news is it? Bored now...

  • Nico Eksteen - 2013-02-25 13:19

LOL. Turns out that it is not necessary for him to report to the police station as the officer assigned to him will visit him at home. Nice no-show for the media vultures. I hope it was warm and uncomfortable outside the police station. LOL

      nurse.helenk - 2013-02-25 13:34

He is being treated with dignity and respect if they are going to visit him twice a week. So I hope the reports of him contesting his bail conditions are false.

      dumpie.dupreez.7 - 2013-02-25 18:52

Coppers visit him !!!!! And people cannot understand why woman are pist off. Priveledged criminal. Even if he does say it was a `horrible mistake' (load of crap in my eyes), you are still not allowed to just shoot anyone dead even if they are in your home. If it was an intruder, one shot INTO THE GROUND would have had him/her running for his/her life. If, as he claims, he `ran' on his stumps down the passage and was shouting, the perpetrator would have fled. Criminals do not hunt in `singles' .... They are too cowardly

  • julius.hond - 2013-02-25 13:26

  • frikkie.botes - 2013-02-25 13:32

the judge said he must present himself, then he must present himself, how else do peole thing that rule works? he can sit in America and phone the police station and says hi, that is not presenting himself. The law is clear on that, the police must see you in person to know that you are where you must be, otherwise they must put a tracking device on his arm or neck, because on the ankle wont work in his case.

  • fanie.essgee - 2013-02-25 13:32

SA media, Vultures all of you..... give the man a bloody break will you....

      John - 2013-02-25 22:33

Hi Fanie I agree with you , they are bloody vultures. No respect for anyone especially the Steenkamp family. Just watching them chase Carl was enough to make you realise what they are. Oscar has to confront the case and HIS demons alone. Thought his whereabouts while on bail were supposed to be a secret. Lets leave this alone now and see what the trial has to say.

  • JakeMuso - 2013-02-25 13:35

Hope he just used the backdoor or another station. This is a prime example of media fueled rumors. They don't see him now all of a sudden it's not a requirement of his bail?

Why do I have feeling that Oscar did kill Reeva intentionally now because this guy can't even meet his deadline requirement on the first day he is suppose to report at the police station, he is in other words saying f«

      Charlene Bruyns - 2013-02-25 14:20

They obviously knew this would cause a media frenzy and probably told him to go to a different police station.

      T-bos Man - 2013-02-25 14:59

Yes you don't have specific time, it can be between 8 and 4 but not after four hence four is the deadline in this case and anything after that should be punishable

  • Vusi - 2013-02-25 15:45

He is required to check-in and has already done so at a Correctional Services facility. As the magistrate said, the media are following him like he's some unknown species when all he is, is just another accused criminal in a pre-meditated murder case. It seems the media have also lost all common sense as well. Brooklyn Police Station is exactly that, a police station and the arrangement that was made to detain him there during the bail hearing is no longer applicable. Correctional Services is now handling the matter as they would've done if his lawyers hadn't asked for him to be kept in police custody at Brooklyn Police Station.

Just to go back to Oscar's story.....Does he want us to believe that he CHOSE to go and close the door and collects the fan in pitch dark that he could not see if his partner was still lying in bed. The problem I have is that it means Reeva MUST have also decided to get up and go to the toilet also in Total darkness and coincidentally never felt the need to switch on the light in which case oscar would have noticed she was up. That she chose to get up and grope her way to the toilet sounds a bit far fetched and very convenient for a certain Mr Pistorious. "Then I shouted and she did not reply!!!!" People do you know how acute your hearing sense becomes in darkness ??? Yet this Dodo will have us believe she was so scared she did not recognise his voice or simply chose not answer. Pleaaaaseee Oscar!!!!!
