Cape Town – A 29-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in the Tsomo Regional Magistrate Court on Thursday for stabbing a man to death, Eastern Cape police reported.

Spokesperson Jackson Manatha said that Mawande Nkumbi was found guilty of stabbing his friend, Nceba Mbeki, 26, in 2013.

“When the deceased arrived at Zixhotyeni Location, Hebe-Hebe Village Ngqamakhwe on Saturday June 22 2013 he asked for a sip of liquor from the friend of the accused.”

He said before the friend of the accused could respond, the Nkumbi drew his knife and stabbed him numerous times.

Mbeki was declared dead at the scene.

Nkumbi was convicted by the Tsomo Regional Magistrate Court in Thursday May 7.

“He was sentenced to undergo 15 years imprisonment,” Manatha said.
