Cop, accomplices use mall for ammo drop

2012-11-27 22:30

Johannesburg - A Limpopo police station commissioner was arrested on Tuesday afternoon for possession of and dealing in ammunition, the Hawks said.

He was arrested while in a police meeting in Bela-Bela, Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

More than 500 rounds of ammunition were found at his house.

Earlier police arrested a couple believed to be the station commissioner's accomplices.

They were found with 10 500 rounds of ammunition in a Fiat Uno in Montana, Pretoria, and apparently on their way to the Kolonnade Mall to deliver them to a buyer.

The ammunition, some of it military-issue, and the car, were seized.

The 43-year-old captain, based in Rust de Winter, allegedly sold the 9mm and shotgun ammunition to criminals.

The three would appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Ramaloko said more arrests were expected.

Makes you wonder, why police minister did everything in his power to stop WC Commission of Enquiry into police. Could the same thing be happening their.

      lynne.barker.7 - 2012-11-28 05:45

It is totally unacceptable to us citizens of this country to have police who are criminals themselves - you just cannot trust ANYBODY these days

This should be regarded as a case of treason.

  • tyroymike3 - 2012-11-27 23:24

this is the most scary incident - to carry that amount of rounds for sale implies a wider circle of people to manage the process. From SAP warehouse manager up to top SAP management have to be involved in this . Zuma is correct - SA is unique in some ways but we seem to import some South American principles - the cops sell weapons to the gangs and then the cops bust the gangs and take the weapons from them and sell them to another gang , then the cops bust the ............ and around and around and around we go !!! Wow !! This is something civil society needs to protest against - this is not going to end well - for all the law abiding tax payers - hold on to your hats !!!

      Sally Lewitt - 2012-11-27 23:38

this makes my hair stand up on end.. when will it STOP?

      lunga.matsikechangu - 2012-11-28 00:19

Gangs burst are the ones who fail to pay back or share the loot.just like as i suspect in this case, someone was refusing to share the loot.

Tip of the rotten-cop iceberg! What about the approx. 25 000 guns missing from police and miltary stores over the past few years? - no answer has ever been given in Parliament from this government as to that 'slight' problem - and apparently no action taken to tighten controls - bloody amazing! And these people think that I am going to give up my guns - 'Molon Labe' as the Spartans responded when commanded by their enemy to surrender their weapons at Thermopylae - 'come and get them!'

this is horrible! i stay in the area of rust de winter and it just shows how unsafe it is! to think the people i have to trust to protect me and my family are actually helping the criminals get ammo an weapons!!!

Treasonous may not aptly describe this criminal act but it is pretty close. These are 'arms of war' that are being used to overthrow the government by .....people in government. Many know that a handover to new masters is imminent and they have become reckless and blatant with their attempts at self enrichment. They know that when 'this house' is engulfed in flames, the little matter of the rent not having been paid will fade into insignificance

  • robert.reeve.7564 - 2012-11-28 08:52

How many firearms are unaccounted for by the Police since the farcical gun amnesties? I've heard DA compiled figures in excess of 25,000! What happened to all these weapons that were handed in from safer homes by responsible citizens trying to comply with incompetent custodians? Or were the custodians corrupt gun-runners feeding the underground with cheap weapons after duping the public to supply them? How many thousands of SANDF weapons are unaccounted for? I've heard figures of over 79,000 R1's, R4's,SMG's and pistols. Most rebel forces in Africa have R1's. One could can even see them in them in African and Middle East hot spots on TV.

  • magaisada - 2012-11-28 09:07

Don't worry my beautiful people I'll keep you entertained. I can see you are so ashamed that and flabbergasted that a white station commander is selling ammunition to heist kings. "I say let take him and give him mob justice. Throw him in jail. cANCer is one useless organisation with it's corrupt criminals. This is Africa the jubgle what do you expect. Another day in South Africa. God help us all we are living in a jungle. Yet another story of a crooked cop. Anarchy Nepotism Corruption - business as usual on the gravy train." I see you people didn't learn from the farm killing were everybody assumed it was the anc criminals who killed the priest only to find out it was a hit by his step-son.

      ronelvn1 - 2012-11-28 15:16

My dear Dikbek, if you had bothered to look at the time stamps, you would have noticed that the last comment before you was at 9:30. So by the time you bothered to comment, everyone else had already moved on to the next topic. And you should do something about that chip on the shoulder, you might develop a hunchback - I didn't notice any comments referring to the perpetrators being black or a single mention of the ANC...
