Johannesburg - A policewoman was killed and her colleague was wounded when they were attacked while patrolling in Port Elizabeth on Monday, Eastern Cape police said.

The 31-year-old female constable and her 33-year-old male colleague, both attached to the New Brighton police station, were on patrol in Veeplaas when gunmen attacked them, said Lieutenant General Celiwe Binta.

The policewoman died on the scene. The policeman was in a critical, but stable condition in Greenacres hospital.

No arrests had been made.

Binta condemned the attack and called for anyone with information to contact their nearest police station or CrimeStop on 0860-10111.

So sad! Another gun related death. Guns should be banned!

      Koos - 2012-04-02 15:05

Wrong, everyone should have a gun and know how to use it.

      mariska.lloyd - 2012-04-02 18:39

So, the gunmen did not know how to use their guns?

      comurray - 2012-04-20 15:34

Guns don't kill, its the thugs holding them that pull the triggers.

Death penalty is the only way, if you take a life for the wrong reason’s yours should be taken. Will make them think twice before shooting
