Cop in court for attempted murder

Johannesburg - A policeman from Moffat View appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Friday after he allegedly shot a woman, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate said.

Spokesperson Moses Dlamini said Warrant Officer Arthur Bock was arrested earlier on Friday.

He was released on R2 000 bail.

Bock and a captain went to the woman's pub on 30 November last year, chased out all the customers and began to pack away the liquor.

"It is alleged that the suspect [Bock] was angry and asked why the pub was operating after he had closed it down," Dlamini said.

The pub's owner later arrived at the scene with her husband.

Bock allegedly swore and pushed the woman's husband, before punching the woman in the face.

She retaliated and bit Bock on the arm.

"It is alleged that the suspect shot the victim through her stomach."

She was taken to Baragwanath Hospital.

The case was postponed to 30 May.
