Johannesburg - A Cape Town metro police constable appeared in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court on Thursday in connection with the rape of his girlfriend, police said.

The 33-year-old man is accused of raping his 23-year-old girlfriend on Tuesday, said Moses Dlamini, spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.

The man, who faces charges of rape and assault, was granted bail. "It is believed the couple went clubbing before they went to the man's house in Mitchells Plain at about 03:00."

Dlamini said the man then hit the woman over her head and she lost consciousness before he allegedly raped her.

How can south Africans find solutions on crime when the people(police)who supposed to protect the public are the ones which are criminals, rapists and murderers themselves,no wonder why our country is a harbor of crime.

Nice. South Africa is so safe.

I bet he has a previous conviction. It seems that is a prerequisite these days to get into the police services.

Too short a story. Why would he knock her out after clubbing whole night together and going home together so late? In South Africa we need to learn the difference between a girlfriend and a lover. It doesn't come out clearly. Anyway rape is rape and I condemn it.

they say the couple went "clubbing"- so he clubbed her? the level of morality and ethics of these cops are scary- if you do that to your girlfriend imagine what you might deem fitting for strangers...

I think they went out clubbing, got drunk as skunks and landed up at his place. They had wild sex and when she woke in the morning and couldn't remember a thing and didn't know what to tell her waiting husband and decided to cry rape. I could very well be wrong but so could this story. There are always two sides to a story.

Seeing that this lady was his girlfriend and she went to his house - she knew very well as to what was going to happen at 03h00 in the morning. How does the court find this man guilty?
