Cop shoots wife twice in each thigh

2011-12-15 14:42

Johannesburg - A Sannieshof police officer shot his wife while their 8-year-old daughter was in the house, then turned the gun on himself in the early hours of Thursday morning, North West police said.

"A 38-year-old constable allegedly shot his wife twice in each thigh after an argument, using his service pistol," Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said in a statement.

"I am not sure where the daughter was, but she could have witnessed her father shooting her mother."

The 36-year-old woman fled through the bedroom window with the child to look for help.

"A shot was heard and the constable was found with a single bullet wound to the head," Ngubane said.

The man was certified dead on the scene and his wife was admitted to hospital for medical treatment.

An inquest and attempted murder docket were opened.

Why can't these idiots shoot themselves first?

  • Jerhone - 2011-12-15 15:07

It's time to take weapons away from cops and give them to the public,i think the public knows more about using them than the police

  • Hallo - 2011-12-15 15:07

He probably tried to go for the knee-caps.

  • Monti - 2011-12-15 15:16

Maybe it was a very stressful situation and circumstances we as the public are not aware of

  • Jason - 2011-12-15 15:16

Our SAPS bunch are useless/fat/lazy/thieving bastards - and SA we are f*cked!!

  • Thozi - 2011-12-15 15:18

Tragic. How I wish this kind of thing can be avoided, it's now happening all too often. I think our cops are under tremendous stress and we the public, don't make it any easier for them. I hope the remaining family gets the right support to recover from this. It can't be easy.

I also think that weapons should taken away from our police officials because they either kill their families or they get killed by criminals trying to rob them their pistols.

First off, the reason why cops do things like this is because of the nature of the job. The see things normal people rearly see and then there isn't enough head docktors to talk to, so it just becomes too much for them. I was in the police for 4 years doing things and seeing things that still gives me nightmares. I was lucky to go see a docktor, so I am midly "normal", but this is just to sad when they want to kill there family too

      rynier - 2011-12-15 15:54

Man, Why do I never read my stuff I post before I post it. THEY not THE

      Kala - 2011-12-15 16:37

Absolute rubbish Rynier. If you're stressed at work there sure as hell is no reason to go shoot your family. Secondly, if you can't take seeing things that "normal" people don't see, don't become a cop.

News24, have you confirmed this, or must we wait until u get to confirm it?

  • Esperanca - 2011-12-15 19:36

HUH? an inquest and attempted murder document was opened for whom? the dead officer? or did they wife kill him and then shoot her thighs?

  • ReunionofIntelligentMinds - 2011-12-15 23:15

Back in the old days cops had to hand in their firearms before going off duty. Why do they need to take it home anyway? This past year a number of policemen committed suicide or murdered family member(s).

  • eradingoana - 2011-12-16 14:05

These guys 's behaviour is more embarrassing than the security guards. They must just be deployed as unarmed guards and let trained security officers do their job. SAPS should just be privatize. Then there would be management with skills not drilling skills but performance.

  • Gail - 2011-12-16 19:05

I am amazed by the fact that this woman was able to get away with two shots in each thigh!!! Thank her guardian angel that the child also escaped but both will need counselling.
