Cop took part in robbery in uniform

2012-12-28 11:34

Johannesburg - A police captain who allegedly took part - in full uniform - in a business robbery in Sunnyside has been arrested, police said on Friday.

Police spokesperson Pinky Tsinyane said that the cop, aged 56, was arrested along with two others, after a group of five people robbed a shop in the Pretoria suburb.

"Apparently he was in uniform," said Tsinyane.

She said the police captain will appear in court soon on charges of business robbery.

Police are still searching for the two other robbers who managed to escape.

This happens all the time, I'm surprised this made it to the news. At a friends workplace the boss has security cameras by the waste bins (among other places) He noticed a cop car by the bin area one morning. (Idiot) Boss has R200K in a sports bag and chucks it in his Hummer and sets off. Cops follow, hijack him, throw him out somewhere and take off with the car. Long story short, Hummer is recovered with the money! Stupid cops took the Squash bag!

  • Hasani P - 2012-12-28 12:08

I said it and m saying it again, stop giving under trained police guns to carry home. The police have become susceptible to shooting innocent civilians. If these callous acts spiral out of control the people's confidence in police will continue to plummet as it already dwindling in most part of country .The presidency and the justice system is already failing the citizens . The education, the healthy system, government administration have been politicized as ANC cronies fill the posts. Hope is fading as we leap from one crisis to another. The price food keeps rising under our watch . The government refuses to take responsibility . Those who political connected and their families refuses to acknowledge the crisis for as long as they have access to the public purse. Systems are failing everywhere you go . Our focus is being shifted to race and those who do not want to accept that race is an issue will be branded as traitors , targeted and dealt with brutally by those who have the politically power. That's where this country is going. Blame race for everything including the government 's failure to implement their own policies. If me and do not wake and tell this uncle Sam to stop singing and dancing our country will be flushed down the drain.

  • faan.gerber - 2012-12-28 12:54

One should be proud of your uniform. I remember the day I became a captain so well. I couldn't stop looking at my shoulders. My uniform became even more neat - shoes shining and I went to work earlier than before. What happened to being proud of one's uniform ?

      khethu.ndlovu.3 - 2012-12-29 08:43

U went early to work nt becouse u were proud of anything, but u enjoyed the leisure times you apartheid captains had, that of randomly shooting at blacks, who are you trying to fool here?

  • erich.goosen - 2012-12-28 13:02

The fact that he acted so stupidly by wearing his uniform should be an aggrevating circumstance.

  • Kwanele Mzwanele Masoka - 2012-12-28 13:22

Dumb cop, he thought uniform would be used for intimidation most probable.

  • Erna - 2012-12-28 13:46

Apart from being a crook, he's stupid as well.

  • ray.molekoa.5 - 2012-12-28 13:48

This is the reason why crime is so high , THE POLICE ARE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CRIMINALS . This is just a tip of an iceberg and everyone in the police knows it . Those in charge are incompetent and unprofessional it's shocking indeed . Affirmative Action and the POPCRU are amongst others to blame for this .

  • Sakhiwo - 2012-12-28 13:54

Mr Nathi Mthethwa what is wrong with your staff? This is an embarrassment to all of us officials.

  • magdeline.malefane - 2012-12-28 13:59

    What a shame!

  • Ntshobs - 2012-12-28 14:04

Call me names I don't give a damn, I always have a problem whith this call by police and community in general, "police can't curb crime alone, they need the involvement of the community." I say if police really want to control crime they can easily do so without the involvement of the community by first STOP COMMITTING IT. Police officers probably know all criminals in the country because they work with them. Wnenever there's an incident of crime chances are that a police officer is involved, senior police officer. Some if not many join the service/force to hide their criminal activities. when there's an atm blast a police officer is involved, when there's a csh in transit a police officer is involved, whenever there's an illegal firearm burst/selling a police officer is involved,on incidents of homicides it's them, damn South Africa!

      kimard - 2012-12-28 15:56

ditto! wont call you names because its true!

  • jmalatji2 - 2012-12-28 14:37

The reason our cops get involved in criminal activities they are paid low salaries whilst their generals earns 10 times them just 4 sitting in their offices

      kimard - 2012-12-28 15:59

excuse me? how much is enough? and let me tell you - its BEE employment, not low salaries. they employ scum to fill the &^^%$$$

      Erna - 2012-12-28 16:38

So you are excusing this behaviour? No salary is low enough to justify criminal behaviour.

I doubt very much that this just came out of the blue as far as this Captain goes. Would like to see his record for the last 5 years, would like to know who appointed him and what he scored in his exams and who is he related to...or was he just another cadre placed there to maximise influence for and on behalf of people unknown.

No wonder the people have lost faith in the SAPS. This idiot was most likely promoted to adhere to the government's equity requirements whilst other competent black cops were overlooked because they were not "connected" or were not holding the correct "card"

  • hein.huyser - 2012-12-29 11:16

Priceless the arrogance of the cadres. We encounter this in hospitals, politics, the Metros and of coarse SAPS. The rot has gone to the core now, and only a total political change will save us from this rot.

  • mikaelapace - 2013-01-07 09:25

*SIGH* When you can't trust your own police force and protectors who do you turn to? We need to get smart and get closer to our friends and NEIGHBOURS. They are the closest to you in times of emergency. I urge everyone to look at and Like the Victim Support Network on facebook, its a great initiative bringing South Africans together in a time of escalating crime.
