Cope MP shot dead in Limpopo robbery

2011-08-22 14:20

Johannesburg - Cope member and MP Jack Tolo was shot dead at his house in Sekhukhune on Monday morning, Limpopo police said.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said Tolo, his wife and two children were tied up by three men, two were wearing balaclavas. They ransacked the house and stole R7 000, jewellery and four cellphones.

"A scuffle broke out between Tolo one of the robbers and he was shot," Mulaudzi said. Tolo's wife and children were not hurt.

Mulaudzi said the robbers ran away and no arrests had been made.

Tolo's brother, Mokome Tolo, said his brother was killed because he was a kind man.

"The reason why these men could gain access to the house is because he was open and friendly with everyone," he said.

"He was very peaceful and loving. He was just a man passionate about politics and very family orientated."

He was shot during a robbery.? I smell a rat. Methinks the murder was deliberately premeditated and politically motivated.

Seems the ANC deals with the competition in a similar manner to the way they deal with white farmers...

      daaivark - 2011-08-22 14:49

Um. I think it far more likely that this was an internal affair. It strikes one as uncannily close to the Cope legal wrangle. Cope nowadays poses no threat to anyone other than itself.

      sganja - 2011-08-22 14:50

Anc has nothing to do with these.

      sganja - 2011-08-22 14:56

Well said Daaivark we need people like you.....

      WhiteFight - 2011-08-22 15:04

@sganga and we need about 40 million less like you.

Most of these comments are way out of line, not to mention incredibly insensitive. Sincere condolences to his friends, colleagues and family, esp. his wife and children.

      Thank you

Condolences to his family and may he R.I.P. The perpetrators of this crime no longer have the right to be treated as human. Hunt them down and destroy them I say.....we have enough people we are trying to house and feed in this country that these criminals are no loss to man or beast. Rather spend the money you would have on trying to rehabiltate this rubbish and spend it on educating a child.

I knew him as a kind, successful business and passionate politician man. It came as a shock to me because Tolo would not fight with anyone; he was a kind peaceful and friendly father. I am still terrified about his death. Just as his brother mentioned he was friendly and open to everyone that could be reason to access these guys gained access to his house. Ba mmolaetse lefela monna yo batho. May his soul rest in peace . From neighbor Sipho Mokgoadi.

Tolo as we use to call him, Had a soft heart. He built schools for his community at Ga-Masha village Ngwaabe, even some houses for people who couldn't afford to lately as well as giving to the needy freely so. I have a special respect for his family as they always allowed him to do so because is not everyone who can tolerate sharing wealth like he did. So killing people like him is a cost to the community and has cost us a lot. Rest in peace Mr Lekoba Jack Tolo. NEIGHBOR Sipho

Sad for his family and may he rest in peace. This sounds like a robbery gone bad and probably has nothing to do with politics and more to do with violence and avarice. Because of his beliefs ad position he possessed material things that they wanted and there was an attempt on his part to try and stop them so they shot him. I hope the perpetrators are caught and sent to jail.
