Cops arrested for Fourways rape

2011-12-09 10:12

Johannesburg - Two police sergeants have appeared in court after allegedly raping a woman in Fourways, Johannesburg police said on Friday.

"It is alleged that the victim was stopped by the duo who were on duty [last] Friday," police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Tshisikhawe Ndou said.

"She was pulled out of the front seat to the back seat where the police officers allegedly took turns to rape her."

The woman laid a charge against the police that Saturday.

The cops, aged 28 and 43, were arrested and subsequently appeared in court on Thursday.

Their case was postponed to December 12 at which time a formal application for bail will be heard.

They should be hung. No questions asked. The very people who we pay to protect us, are the ones who threaten our lives. Nowadays people are more afraid of crooked cops in SA than we are of actual violent criminals running around at night...

      Kala - 2011-12-09 10:21

I agree methedex. We have to be careful though before we start pointing fingers. I have heard of women shouting rape in order to get attention diverted away from some wrong doing that they have been involved in.

      methedex - 2011-12-09 10:24

Indeed. Yet I have friends who have been negatively been affected by crooked cops. And you just can't beat the system. You just have to bow to them and hope they leave you alone...

      ChiefGalaktus - 2011-12-09 10:35

A friend of mine spent 1yr6months as an awaiting trial inmate for rape. On the last day of proceedings in court the girl she had alleged to have raped, changed her story saying it was the father that put her up to this. So sometimes rape also needs to be investigated properly like any other crime.

      Bardy - 2011-12-09 10:37

I am sure they will also get raped in prison. And the others will also make turns on them. Then they will know how it feels.

      methedex - 2011-12-09 10:37

In a case like that I think that the girl should have been sentenced to 1 year and 6 months.

      Sharon - 2011-12-09 10:45

@Methedex.........that is what they want, submission...........I and all of us should say NO.....enough is enough........I will never bow to them ever

      procold2 - 2011-12-09 10:51

its disgusting, not hung slow painfull death.

      Bloody-Agent - 2011-12-09 11:03

We need our own Boondock Saints!! In this country it would be a full time job!

      methedex - 2011-12-09 11:09

"We do not ask for your poor or your hungry. We do not want your tired and sick. It is your corrupt we claim. It is your evil that will be sought by us. With every breath, we shall hunt them down. Each day we will spill their blood til it rains down from the skies. Do not kill, do not rape, do not steal, these are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are not polite suggestions — these are codes of behavior. And those of you that ignore them will pay the dearest cost. There are varying degrees of evil, we urge you lesser forms of filth not to push the bounds and cross over into true corruption, into our domain. But if you do, one day you will look behind you and you will see we three and on that day you will reap it. And we will send you to which ever god you wish. And shepherds we shall be, for thee my Lord for thee, power hath descended forth from thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command. We shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti."

      methedex - 2011-12-09 11:25

I think if you exchange all the corrupt cops for all the violent okes in jail. Crime rates will stay exactly the same...

      Kala - 2011-12-09 11:34

Just a word to all those who decided to give me a thumbs down. I recently spoke to a teacher who had his lap top stolen by some kids at the school he taught at. When he went to report it to the police station he was advised that the same kids had opened a case of molestation against him. His only course of action was to withdraw his case a lose his lap top.

      methedex - 2011-12-09 11:40

Oprah: "Are you going to spank them?" Teacher: "No, no spanking." Teacher(behind Oprah): "We are going to BEAT them!!!".

      johnkk - 2011-12-09 12:00

based on police reputation, the odds favour the woman.

      tbooze - 2011-12-09 12:13

theres more to the story than what we read hear , who is stupid enough to rape someone while wearing a uniform with a name tag ?

      Emily - 2011-12-09 13:41

I know the girl in question. This is not an allegation. One of the worst aspects of rape is people doubting the survivor. Please always be on the side of the survivor until proven wrong. Most women fail to report rape because of this doubtful, dismissive attitude. They need support and strength. Our government needs to make rape their number 1 agenda - changing men's attitudes towards women and protecting our women. 1 in 3 women surveyed in an SA study admitted to being raped IN THE PAST YEAR.

  • Steenbra - 2011-12-09 10:24

In some cases one has to ask about the slection process of police officers. Who selects them and what is the criteria of selection. How are they rated for promotions. In this case the ICD should go back and look at 1.the selections and who selected them, 2. who recommended them for promotion and these people should take some form of accountability for the recruitment and promotion of these officers.. And they should be shown/disciplined for their poor assesments and recommendations!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      Hunter - 2011-12-09 10:39

What's more, Steenbra, is that police members are not required to do the fire arm competency evaluations that nomral citizents need to do, to get a license to possess a fire arm. Chances are that no evaluation is done in terms of fitness to serve.

      Sharon - 2011-12-09 10:47

They get selected because they were promised a job and that is where they go.......years ago you had to have matric to get in u just need to need a job that was promised

      Sean - 2011-12-09 11:18

Probably off the street corner - i think that there is no more recruitment criteria at all, some policemen apparentently can't even drive a vehicle and are given driving lessons as part of their basic training!?

  • Pieter - 2011-12-09 10:25

    Hang them if guilty!

  • Gavin - 2011-12-09 10:26

What the f is happening to our great country ? Courtesy of a corrupt government all the things we are good at, are things we can only bow our heads in shame at.

  • thashmo - 2011-12-09 10:27

What the hell is this world coming to, if you don't get hijacked by cops, now women are getting raped??

  • Craig - 2011-12-09 10:29

If you can't beat the system from within the country then email all crimes where the police are involved to an overseas newspaper, maybe that would help.

      Sharon - 2011-12-09 10:49

I am sure it will, but they must be found guilty first.

  • rdnaidoo - 2011-12-09 10:32

Ready or Cop Here We Come! How pathetic! Responding to a call for help and then help yourself just because. Castrait them I say

  • Phumezo - 2011-12-09 10:34

Though we support the efforts of ridding our society of hate crimes such as rape, child and woman abuse we must becareful of people who might take advantage of this and use it against others. In this country if there are people who are on the recieving end of justice it is our police officers. If it is not rugby players killing them for mistaken identy, then its there protesters provoking them and then its something else with no recourse to them! I will reserve my comments about this until the law has taken its cause. Though my feeling tells me otherwise happens! Then again we will never know!

      Impartial - 2011-12-09 11:01

Maybe we can wait and see the law take its path, but that path might also be the Docket walking out the police station? I for one will not put it past our police nowadays as even criminals will be accepted into to service, we live in a country where discrimination is only tolerated..... against law abiding citizens!!!

      johnkk - 2011-12-09 12:13

Listen to the John Robbie show on 702, and look at all the incidents, then you might change your mind. The police that are doing their jobs properly and with are honour, we respect you.

  • Eryn - 2011-12-09 10:40

So now we need to be afraid of our Police Service as well. This is digusting and outragous. The people that are supposed to be protecting us are now becoming criminals as well. When will we ever be safe in our own country. Makes you wonder why so many people are leaving this lovely place.

  • George - 2011-12-09 10:44

Years ago I was told if ever you need protection, a policeman was the person to find. He was your fried and protector. Now the best person to find is Aglioti

  • Ramudzuli Muthuphei - 2011-12-09 10:50

      Joan - 2011-12-09 12:22

No they are not!!! And we never will get real men in the police force until they pay them decent money. Everybody has to live and need a decent wage. Pay them better, train them well and then cull the wheat from the chaff.also bring in instructors from overseas police forces. Show them how, make the job training really hard and the guys who are just in it for the uniform and the power won't be able to take it. At the end we will have a real police force, not the one we have now.

  • Chantelle - 2011-12-09 10:51

TO SERVE AND PROTECT obviously not the citizens of south africa anymore - only themselves and their disgusting attitude of "i will take what i want", and abusing their authority. I cannot imagine what the woman must have been going through - 1 woman, 2 men... 1 was probably holding her down... horrible horrible horrible

  • Justin - 2011-12-09 11:18

Hey, Please don't compare these guys to animals there is no description for them. If this was my loved one, I would hope they get off, then I would dish out justice myself (shariah law), saving time and money. Maybe a stoning or a necklace would be nice. The courts and the system certainly won't give justice - most of these cops will get off on "lack of evidence" I do agree we need to bring back the death penalty - but not in my lifetime, unfortunately. Death should be brought in for many crimes: rape, murder, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and not least child abuse.

  • Clarissa - 2011-12-09 11:28

Do we have cops in the world? I thought it is up to you to protect yourself? Did i miss something?

      Sean - 2011-12-09 12:09

This makes me think of the signs at the offramps on the highways stating "Hi-jacking hotspot take care of your own safety"!? I don't get it, are the police not there to take care of our safety? How can one expect a lady to protect herself against two policemen that are supposed to be there to protect her and all of the residents of this country? If she did try to protect herself she probably would have been arrestd for defeating the ends of justice or something to cover their tracks!

      johnkk - 2011-12-09 12:20

@Sean, they should change the signage to "RAPE HOT SPOT ~ BEWARE OF THE POLICE"

  • Thandi - 2011-12-09 11:34

Sounds like par for the course for our pathetic apology for police.

  • tmazhura - 2011-12-09 11:35

    thus stupid policing

  • Phil.Kleynhans - 2011-12-09 11:36

Now you want me to trust cops. This isn't the first incident. There are some that getting away with it. Our system stinks

  • Andre - 2011-12-09 11:43

How can anyone safely stop when being instructed to do so by a police officer in this country? It appears that they are not here to uphold the law. They are here to abuse their power for their own gain. Although there are honest police in this country, no citizen should have to be the victim of this kind of criminality by the law enforcers. The police need to explain why we should obey them.

      Sean - 2011-12-09 12:22

immagine what would happen if one of their (policemen) family members were raped, the cukprits would have been denied bail, thrown into jail and the keys thrown away forever! This case is probably going drag on forever and the docket would spontaniously dissappear and the policemen are probably going to get away with it and continue to abuse their "powers"!

  • Dumisani - 2011-12-09 12:02

  • Zane - 2011-12-09 12:05

  • Spiral - 2011-12-09 12:08

    CUT IT OFF!!!

  • Ann - 2011-12-09 12:12

This is DISGUSTING!!! Send them straight to jail to keep Selebi company!

  • tacod - 2011-12-09 12:12

in the event that they are found guilty on the charges, castration.

  • Cracker - 2011-12-09 12:19

Surely the technology is available to record every interaction with suspects and suspicious activities. Remove all doubt for the benefit of the public and the police officers.

Public execution. Time to make an example.

      Pieter - 2011-12-09 14:48

We whites know nothing of Africa. We don't understand their psyche nor their world view nor their mentality. Think of the worst kind of psychopath and add some gory violence to it. These guys kill and walk away as if they bought a coke at the spaza shop. Public execution may make a small impression on them, but really, you will not educate or change them. There may have been a grand and divine reason for whites to come here, but I no longer want to be part of it. The blood will flow, if not from the victims, then from those who will wage the war against the evil oppression which is ANC cadres. S.A. is bleeding. Ironically there was more peace and prosperity during apartheid than there is now. Poverty sickness and crime have excelled under black rule. Go figure. There's a proverb that says you should not keep on supporting a bad enterprise. S.A. is a bad enterprise. Jump ship if you can. Give your children a future. Millions graduate matric with sub standard results into an economic irrelevant reality. When do you think will this time bomb blow up? We are talking millions of poor disenfranchised angry 'youths' with sticks and stones. Back to the stone age my friends. Civilization has left this place.

  • BenadeCeleste - 2011-12-09 13:14 i said before. SAPS make me feel more at risk. If i'm in need of help, they are the last people i would contact. Dont trust them at all....

@ All your human rights activists : Why suddenly so quiet..what about this poor lady`s rights?? You should be banned because you lost the war long time ago and siding with detained criminals`s rights..As for those two cops: If this is true you should be hanged in public for all to see.

  • Miki - 2011-12-09 14:15

I have read some of the comments on this site with utter embarassment. As a Policewoman I can tell you that this happens more often then people realise. The upside is that (slowly but surely) we are eradicating these people from our ranks! At the moment this is the nature of the beast! But, please take heart, there are still really good Police personel out there and the thing is, these rapist/thieves/crooked/murderers are being arrested by their own PEERS! The members I work with... well what can I say? They are welcome around my table anyday. I too have been put in this position of having to arrest a fellow member, but as the saying goes, 'do the crime.. do the time'!! Where these rapists are concerned.... CASTRATION. What a horrible fate! To remember how good it was and to never take part again!! That alone should drive the rapist quite mad!

      Anthony - 2011-12-09 14:35

Well said Miki. We all need to make a stand against these criminals.

  • paul.prinsloo3 - 2011-12-09 14:50

Cops rape, bribe, murder, extord money from scared (innocent) victims, assault people, especially white woman in holding cells, lease SAPS issued firearms to hijackers an security transit hold-ups, demand bribes from innocent people, under threat of arresting them under some fabricated pretext... just some of the articles in the media that I recall off the top of my head, SOUTH AFRICANS (OF ALL COLOURS AND CREDES) ARE YOU JUST GOING TO STAND BY AND OBSERVE WITH A SIGH OR ARE YOU PREPARED TO UNITE TO COMBAT THE SCURGE? I recently refused two policemen entry to my property (which they claimed they had to enter because they suspected a fugitive to be hiding in the area) telling them I,m not as scared of fugatives as I am of the Police.
