Pretoria - Police were on the hunt on Monday for the man who shot and killed a 22-year-old Viva Youth College student.

Warrant Officer Louis de Bruyn said no arrests had been made following the killing of the student on Friday night at his cottage on the premises of the college in Timsrand, near Centurion.

He said the young man, who has not been named, was shot as he came from the bathroom into the bedroom.

"He was shot without warning. The man (the shooter) then ran away," he said.

Viva Youth College is a centre for teenagers and young adults diagnosed with neurobiochemical disorders, including bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

The Pretoria News reported the young victim, who cannot be named because of mental health regulations, had been playing computer games with two friends. It reported that the two friends attempted unsuccessfully to save his life.

De Bruyn said the shooter had run off without taking anything.
