Cops mum on Pistorius phone records

2013-03-04 08:47

Johannesburg - Police refused to comment on Monday on the investigation into the murder of model and law graduate Reeva Steenkamp, allegedly by her paralympian boyfriend Oscar Pistorius.

"The investigative team is working really hard on evidence from all aspects of the case," Brigadier Phuti Setati said.

"Police and investigators would like to be given space to conduct a thorough investigation."

Setati said he could not comment on an Eyewitness News report that there was no evidence that rugby player Francois Hougaard sent Steenkamp a text message that night, which some media have reported enraged Pistorius.

EWN also reported that the three cellphones found at Pistorius's house were last used at 20:00 the night before the shooting, and that one of them was used again the next morning to call paramedics.

The Hawks reportedly subpoenaed the cellular networks to obtain the cellphone records.

Pistorius was granted bail of R1m last month with a number of conditions attached. His next court appearance is on 4 June.

Steenkamp was cremated in a private ceremony in Port Elizabeth on 19 February.

      Vienna Iradian - 2013-03-05 03:11

yawn....? Why don't we read about Reeva being involved with Oscar because of his money and status? Was that not the reason her 'JHB father...ha ha' took her with him the night she met/ 'caught' Oscar?

Please allow the investigating team sufficient time to conduct their examination. Too many errors have already been made due to statements made by the investigating officers under pressure.

  • flynn.govender - 2013-03-04 10:23

Media - Let the investigating officers do their job because all the evidence will finally come out in court. Speculations mostly lead to propaganda which is totally unfair to Oscar & Reeva's family

      Xolelwa Liwani - 2013-03-04 19:35

      Its true

  • Prangsuda Oudomsuk - 2013-03-04 21:22

I'm an expat, who has been following this circus. Shame on the media for making this a marketing and sales agenda, even more shameful is the south African public, so quick to judge others and make ignorant comments without facts, why bother having a trial just pull Oscar onto the street and stone him you annoying, simple minded hypocrites! Does it make you feel good to see others fall? Do you get a kick from seeing others in turmoil, as it takes away the feelings of self loathing that you have for yourselves? Stop posting half wit comments and focus on changing your aggressive and moronic attitudes.

      eric.summers.9406 - 2013-03-05 01:08

Sal foaming again - where do you get off telling people they cant comment on News24 - wake up to reality!

      Kurt Paul Abrahams - 2013-03-08 20:38

Sorry we do not support these actions, fact number 1 he killed an innocent female who was supportive to her family,an if you been the expert you claim to be,you would understand that a lot of south africans feel dissapointed at his iresponsible actions number 1 an feel that his story is hard to swollow,so you can join team kissing ass cause you clearly have a 1 sided perspective of what is goin on!

  • Naomi Botha - 2013-03-04 22:16

Seriously,as so many people say,we dont need to know everything thats going on with oscar. We do have lives and there are far more important stories than tthis.

  • Lisa Brown - 2013-03-12 00:49

really, how would the ex know whether or not she locked the door? i would lock the door when I was living with a male, to make sure he never walked in (or the kids) incase I'm doing a s*** or putting a t***** in. Last thing you want is someone walking in on you, that's just the norm. Reality is when you in a r'ship why was she texting all her ex's anyway. Jealousy is a norm part of life, was she intentionally trying to p*** him off, playing mind games, not like she had kids with any ofher ex's (as her bf said she just wanted 2b famous). I'd say his fears were real. I myself have thought my kids where elsewhere, when in fact they have given me a fright as they where somewhere else, or even I've heard noises thinking 'who or what the hell was that' and it was the kids in the other room when I thought they were in bed. Who hasn't experienced at some stage. Hell this is SA! Shocking behaviour on her behalf! with the world at his feet and coming from a good background, he doesn't fit the profile of a murderer. And if Reeva was alive, I'm sure she wouldn't wish this upon him. Its appalling unless you've walked in someone elses shoes, you have no idea how real suicidal is....everyone knows lawyers aint cheap. And with all his income (sponsors) withdrawn of course that is stress in its own, let alone the multimillion legal fees. Get real people. Guess Reeva's ex must have felt inadequate knowing he had legs and Oscar didn't. Reeva sounds like a user! How's that a nice girl!
