Cops quiz Oscar Pistorius over shooting

2013-02-14 09:08

Pretoria - Police are investigating a case of murder after a woman was shot dead at a Pretoria house in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to Beeld, paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius was being questioned at Silverwoods Country Estate in connection with the shooting. He is expected to appear in Pretoria Magistrate’s court later on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Katlego Mogale told eNCA that she could not confirm the man's identity until he appears in court.

She added that a 9mm pistol was recovered from the scene and a case of murder is being investigated. The woman was apparently shot four times.

Police are still busy with preliminary investigations on the scene, and statements are being taken from neighbours.

Paramedics were called to the house after the shooting and declared the woman dead at the scene.

I'm stunned! This is truly horrible and the fallout will be too!

  • miyo27 - 2013-02-14 09:13

this is probably the worst thing that could ever happen to a couple on Valentines day morning...happening to such a gifted and successful athlete. Now his future career is in jeopardy. Sad!

  • lelanie.prinsloo - 2013-02-14 09:13

I doubt this was an accident..... I have never really like Oscar, but still it is very sad someone has died... Surely one gets training how to use a gun and dont just shoot to kill unless your life is in serious threat... My opinion.

      jerome.main.9 - 2013-02-14 20:44

      especially shooting her 4 times

Murder is murder,be it in self defence or wateva. You gonna have to take e stand.

  • gideon.walt - 2013-02-14 09:14

Wow, this is going to be a lot of drama. Well if you shot her unfortunately the same rules have to apply.

  • AlexWallerSA - 2013-02-14 09:14

No warning shot or verbal warning, 4 shots fired before he "realized" it was her. This thing sounds pretty fishy to me.

  • katlego.makoala - 2013-02-14 09:16

    This is very unfortunate

  • edwin.dinake.1 - 2013-02-14 09:17

I dont blame him..Cause the violence in SA is so high...people live in total fear...and the person who live to murder and rob always end up free...Heads up Pistorius...My prayers are with you...It could have been anyone...

  • papiki.mahlatsi - 2013-02-14 09:21

Now that the identity of the suspect has not yet been revealed, whoever did that should face the full might of the law, and be punished severely.

  • jeandre.welgemoed - 2013-02-14 09:23

Amazing when someone is 'famous' and 'accidentally' kills someone else the whole world sees that person as innocent, I personally think there's more to the Pistorius shooting incident, he pulled the trigger 4 times, is he a valid firearm license holder? I say the firearm control act is going to burn this ONCE golden boy, I think there's more to this, let's wait and see just hope there was a TOP detective on call! My condolences to the deceased's family

If this was really a mistake, let Oscar free. We all make mistakes. No one is perfect and we all react in situations differently. He reacted with fear and he shoot four times... Lets not judge and think we could have acted any different.

Wat a valentines present 4 the poor gal may her soul rest in peace

  • mphiga - 2013-02-14 09:57

Well the cops are wrong for opening a 'murder' case cause the law allows every S.A citizen to use any kind of force (incl. firearm) when they feel threatened at their home so Oscar will win the case but I say there's more to this shooting than is alleged.

      Goboza Mashaba - 2013-02-14 10:08

You are contradicting yourself and confusing the hell out of us. If there's more to this shooting then the police are not wrong and are within their legal obligation to open a murder case.

      mphiga - 2013-02-14 10:43

Yes there's more but only oscar will ever know...the police cannot prove anything beyond what he said to have happened, they will only wonder and suspect like the rest of us

      mphiga - 2013-02-14 10:43

      mphiga - 2013-02-14 16:58

And I suggest u know everything right Jose? Put 2 and 2 together, Oscar will not be found guilty of murder n I know so much more than you do don't just read what these journalists say n leave it at that, analyse the facts critically n apply necessary statutes where suitable and you'll see the gaps that will give Oscar reasonable doubt

      moonflowerz - 2013-02-14 18:24

Don't forget the previous incidence of violence... including domestic violence at this house very recently with this woman he has now killed... that is the real reason he did not get bail... somehow a habitual violent person does not appear so innocent when he kills the woman he loves with four shots at close range...

  • Ntutu Dlova - 2013-02-14 09:57

RIP lady ,u didn't deserve this. Oscar puts SA on the limelight again. He is trending

  • antionette.oberholzer - 2013-02-14 10:03

This is so sad. Such an amazing athlete and this has to happen.

  • Clash No-one Mafumo - 2013-02-14 10:03

wat happened to not guilty until pleaded/proven otherwise? we all do mistakes and Oscar is no saint. tat s y da case is opened nd investigation 2b conducted so he can b proved guilty or innocent

  • trevor.james.71216 - 2013-02-14 10:11

Very sad story indeed.. but just a thought what if she was first shot in the head and then the rest of her body how was she supposed to scream?..

  • petro.smith.752 - 2013-02-14 10:12

  • warwick.bristow - 2013-02-14 10:14

Come on people. Oscar is being questioned. Where did it say in the report he shot the woman. Innocent till proven guilty.

  • lbeksteen - 2013-02-14 10:16

Leave the judgemental opinions to those in the higher court! Rather pray for both Oscar and his gf's (may she rip) family to get through this difficult time. This is not the time to crucify him, people need to stop being insenstive

  • jean.erasmus.39 - 2013-02-14 10:17

Why do people always walk in their houses with no lights on, come on I mean, why you spend so much money for Eskom but you don't use the lights. That why you get shot, bcause you walk like a intruder. Goodluck Oscar.
