Durban - Almost 20 years after the murder of a young author, police have identified two men who may be able to assist in the investigation.

Durban Central police are looking for Kgosi Morake - believed to be in Gauteng or in Gaborone, Botswana - and Lincon Shabalala, who is possibly living in Gauteng.

The two are understood to have attended a party at which 25-year-old writer Daniel Thusi, also known as Ramaleshane, was killed, police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane confirmed in a statement.

“On 9 July 1996 at about 20:20, the police attended an incident of an alleged murder which took place at Marine Sands building in Durban,” he said.

“The deceased… was apparently attending a party held by students from Durban Westville University on the 15th floor of the building. Indication is that a fight had broken out and that shots were fired.”

Zwane said it is suspected that Thusi may have been assaulted or pushed from the balcony of the building.

“Morake and Shabalala have been identified as persons who were present and who may possible be able to assist with the investigation.”

Anyone with information on their whereabouts is urged to phone Detective Lieutenant Colonel Didi on 079 696 3587 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
