Johannesburg - A case against a man charged with raping 33 girls between the ages of 10 and 14 was postponed in the Alberton Magistrate's Court on Friday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini the 40-year-old man would be back in court for a bail application on February 28.

He has also been charged with 33 counts of attempted murder.

The man - who cannot be identified at this stage - was arrested in Edenpark at the end of January.

This was after one of the alleged victims followed him to his home and alerted the police.

The girls, from Katlehong, Thokoza, and Vosloorus, were allegedly lured to an open veld and raped between 2007 and 2011.

Forensic evidence had been produced but further tests were being done.

The police intended opposing a bail application, Dlamini said.

Keep him in jail. Very nice people, already in jail, will attend to him.

as has been suggested in this forum before: Plant some cocaine on him and ship him off to China

Why are the police opposing bail? Surely that is the job of the prosecutor? Have I watched too many CSIs or what? Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the maggot is behind bars but I also think the cops have enough on their hands without having to do other state officials jobs too.

Maybe the police are tired of catching these criminals only to have them out again on the streets

nooooo!! Don't oppose bail! Release him on free bail-after a poster campaign with his name and address has been succesful. Then release him, and let the community deal with him. the law has no teeth. In prison we as tax payer maintain his health and provide free and save accomodation and 3 meals a day!!! after the community is done, rapists will think twice.
