Corrie Sanders accused in court

2012-10-01 12:07

Brits - Three men accused of murdering former world heavyweight boxing champion Corrie Sanders appeared in the Brits Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Paida Fish, 19, Samuel Mabena, 27, and Chris Moyo, 25, each face one count of murder and three charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The matter was postponed to 8 October for further investigation. The men will remain in custody.

Mabena also appeared in court on Monday in connection with the murder of farmer Mauritz Oberholzer near Brits on 5 September. This matter was postponed until Tuesday.

The three were arrested in the Oukasie informal settlement, near Brits, on Thursday after police received a tip off, police spokesperson Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said last week.

At the address where the men were arrested, police recovered a cellphone, vehicle key, purse, handbag, and cash believed to have been stolen during the robbery in which Sanders was shot on 22 September.

"Police then went to a second address and a third suspect was arrested," Ngubane said.

The three men are Zimbabweans.

Attack

Sanders was at the Thatch Haven Country Lodge, in Brits, when armed robbers entered and began firing shots at random. Sanders was hit in the hand and stomach and died in the Kalafong hospital the next day.

Outside court members of the Oukasie SA National Civic Organisation protested.

"Our Constitution is failing us because criminals go free," Michael Mhlongo said.

"They have taken our champion. We are sending our condolences to the Sanders family."

He said the home affairs department had failed by letting foreigners into the country as they had no legal documents and therefore could not be traced if they committed crimes.

One man held up a poster which read: "They took Lucky Dube now it's Corrie Sanders. Enough is enough with illegal foreigners. No bail."

Sanders won the World Boxing Organisation's heavyweight title in March 2003 by dropping Ukrainian Wladimir Klitsckho in the second round in Hanover, Germany. He retired five years later.

You have enough evidence just shoot the bastards and be done with them !

      Willie - 2012-10-01 12:19

No, send them to China with luggages full of cocaine ,problem solved

      Bob - 2012-10-01 12:24

Here’s the problem (not for the white man though) with the word “underprivileged”: It's PASSIVE. The black people at the bottom of the economic food chain are the OPRESSSED. They are down there because of oppression. This is why the term "less fortunate" infuriates me. It simply disregards the history of racial subordination and oppression and says that we are "unlucky. It removes the context.

      boltonbarry - 2012-10-01 12:34

Good point Bob. So in a few years time when whites are "OPRESSED" we are going to go and kill and steal and rob and maim..Cant wait honestly...

      gieljam.gomtor - 2012-10-01 12:39

Bob please see a shrink there's something amiss..

      aniken.vader.31 - 2012-10-01 12:49

      bob - is a troll..!

      talana.malherbe - 2012-10-01 13:02

Bob its becoming clear that you don't have the intelligence to make a useful contribution to the comments as all your comments sound the same. "opression" this and "opression" that, get over yourself! So you will choose any black person side whether he is the murderer or not! As long as they are black?? How ignorant you are.

      shirley.steenkamp - 2012-10-01 13:10

You took the words out of my mouth. No more to say!

      rowen.loretz - 2012-10-01 13:15

Bob , the only opression you have is in your mind. Your perception is flawed or you just plain stupid as it gets!

      walter.tgsa - 2012-10-02 16:53

Hope they get raped and abused and beaten up in jail, at least 10 times a day, there just HAS to be some justice! The Courts are useless!

  • talana.malherbe - 2012-10-01 12:20

Now how can you give a man a fair trial who is wanted for another murder?? Send him back to Bob and Zimbabwe in pieces!

  • gieljam.gomtor - 2012-10-01 12:35

Send them to Hang and if they appeal hang them "Apeal" and all..

The goverment is not doing enough to combat crime, when my bro gets robbed @ gun point in stellenbosch it has become personal for me.We dont need scums like that in our country.we should be able to walk and sleep freely without any fear.

      aniken.vader.31 - 2012-10-01 12:55

what are you talking about? anc released stats that show that we are living in such a crime-free country! Oh yeah they forgot to mention that 60% of 10111 calls are not even part of those stats - fail! Frankly for the amount of money being spent on the policing, one would expect that each one of us should have a personal police-guard..!

      Tshilidzi Wa Ha Mukhovha - 2012-10-01 12:58

They must be hanged by their Balls all of them. There's no need for them to be tried.

You know Nthete the sad thing about RSA and what you would like it to be like, is how RSA was in the sixties/seventies during Apartheid !!!! I am in no way agreeing with that era , but there must have been some type/ deterrant etc in those days. Death penalty maybe ?? Different perspective on life, respect, religion,a government(how wrong)that could enforce the laws, and above all a law abiding citezens . Times have changed I know (thank goodness) but surely we can learn from the positive aspects of our history !!!! Just a thought !!!

  • mart.botha - 2012-10-01 12:51

The 'equallity and human rights for criminals' lobby is killing more innocent people in this country than would probably be the norm. What they preach and advocate should be geared only at the innocent. It is both illogical and self-destructive to nurture a flesh eating virus...why afford these mutants the same privelages. Millions and millions in this country are poor, and they don't use this as an excuse to committ crime.

  • IaanCrous - 2012-10-01 12:54

Murdering illegal immigrants do not deserve the protection of our Constitution. They would not come to our country if they know they will pay the ultimate price for murdering our people. If found guilty, they should receive the death penalty and be hung in public within a week of conviction.

      atholl.canterbury - 2012-10-01 13:11

In Zimbabwe - the ones who swore an oath to protect the Zimbabwe Constitution (and the Rights of it's citizens) - refused to uphold their duty. The Rights of Zimbabwe Citizens - which is now a Game - has now threatened the Rights of SA Citizens. This is why those who swear an oath to enforce the Constitution must do their duty. The Bill of Rights in South Africa is not a Game!.

  • sifiso.sosibo.10 - 2012-10-01 12:58

Foreigners are making a mockery of our justice and immigration system cause they're so scared of their countries' dictators yet they slaughter us like sacrificial lambs when robbing us in our own country. Is this how they thank us for five star hospitality we giving them? Call me xenophobic but someone has to say it like it is and hope we catch a wake sooner or later!

      James - 2012-10-01 13:10

I agree. Next time xenophobic violence breaks out, they're not getting much sympathy.

      rowen.loretz - 2012-10-01 13:23

I agree. xenophobia may get rid of scum like this. How the hell are they just to walk into our country like this and kill SA citizens.

      Tshilidzi Wa Ha Mukhovha - 2012-10-01 19:12

Sifiso is true, all the foreigners who commit serious crime similer to these one must be hanged

  • sj.fourie.56 - 2012-10-01 13:01

    Hang them!

  • andrew.prinsloo - 2012-10-01 13:01

  • Tshilidzi Wa Ha Mukhovha - 2012-10-01 13:02

Fair trial my foot. These Hooligans are murders, they deserved to be hanged by their Balls.

  • Alice - 2012-10-01 13:07

Condolences to Sanders family. These Zimbos must be hanged finish and klaar!

      nick.collis.16 - 2012-10-01 13:33

The big problem with illegal Zimbabweans and the crime they generate could have been solved if the ANC had dealt with ZANU PF in 2008 after electoral fraud had robbed the MDC of yet another victory. Mbeki chose to force to force a unity government on Zim when he should have closed the borders and turned off the lights. Four years later the same problem exists with a broken economy forcing an exodus to SA......go figure!

  • msturmair - 2012-10-01 13:09

    one word - DEATH PENALTY

  • Truth.nnete - 2012-10-01 13:12

After Corrie's murder I told you people that, while we are fighting each other people come here to drag RSA to the level of their countries,I made e.g of ET and Lucky Dube being killed by aliens.May Corrie's soul RIP

  • tkmatewa - 2012-10-01 13:23

I think its time for the SA government to deport any foreigner who fail to produce an official proof of employment upon request becoz most of them are coming here to commit serious offences.

  • talana.malherbe - 2012-10-01 13:23

Just an observation, I've been reading News24 comments for very long and only started commenting recently. The majority of us are usually fighting each other on this site while it is clear that we all have so much in common. We hate the crime, we want to live in piece and harmony. I'll bet that deep down we don't care who is black, white, pink or blue. Most of us want the same things for outselves and our children, we can make such a difference when we all stand together.

      BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-10-01 13:41

I second that, and not to mention the massive potential this country has locked away, and that could be released if only South Africans of all races would stand together and fight all the evils as one united front, starting with an inept governement.

      Mike Peach - 2012-10-01 14:11

Well said talana and the only way to stop the agents is to vote there party into the kalahari desert.

  • mxeki.maduvula - 2012-10-01 13:28

      aniken.vader.31 - 2012-10-01 13:36

they were TIPPED-OFF! They did NOTHING to find these bastards..! CONGRATULATE the people who tipped them off which are the members of the csociety that actually CARE to get rid of crime without gaining anything...

  • Sonnyjakes - 2012-10-01 13:38

Makwere kwere, carry on, before Christmas you'll be running your butts off! Don't complain then.

  • mzuvukile.maswana - 2012-10-01 13:40

Well done those in the community who tipped off our protectors in blue and also well done to the men in blue for the quick responce. These are the things that give us hope in our country. No matter how overlooked they maybe.

  • Pete7930 - 2012-10-01 13:46

Dont waste our tax money paying for these halfbreeds in holding cells. Shoot them and burn them. Problem solved!

  • jose.d.santos.9041 - 2012-10-03 08:42
