Johannesburg - A Bushbuckridge councillor has been sentenced to three years in prison by the Acornhoek Magistrate's Court for intimidation, Mpumalanga police said on Wednesday.

Delta Mokoena intimidated a family in Brooklyn, near Acornhoek, on 10 September 2010, police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala said.

"He told the family to vacate their house as he did not want to see them anymore at that place. He then threatened to kill them should they refuse to heed to his demands."

The next day, the family moved to Timbavati Trust, also near Acornhoek.

Mokoena, 42, was sentenced on Tuesday.

He was expected to appear in the same court again on 11 November and 3 December on separate charges, said Mohlala.

The first was for arson.

Mokoena allegedly accused a man of practising witchcraft and told him to leave his home, which he later set alight. The man later contacted police.

In the second case Mokoena and other men allegedly kidnapped a man on 3 March this year and took him to Mokoena's office where they allegedly assaulted him.
