Port Elizabeth - Three Nelson Mandela Bay metro councillors were killed when their vehicle overturned after swerving to avoid a cow on the R72 near Hopewell, Arrive Alive said on Monday.

Ten other people were injured when the Toyota Quantum left the road and overturned just before 20:00 on Sunday, said spokesperson Tshepo Machaea.

The injured were taken to hospitals in Port Elizabeth.

It was not known whether the vehicle hit the animal, he said.

The Nelson Mandela Bay metro municipality could not immediately be reached for comment.

animals on the road! now that govt officials are killed, i am sure something will be done about it.for gods sake ,there are bloody cows on the freeway ,everyday. where are all these stock thieves? instead of stealing from productive farmers, you should do us all a favour and steal these stray cows from our roads.if its not taxis, then its animals.i wonder if these are not the same animals driving these taxis?
