Court clears gallery for kids' appearance

Johannesburg - Members of the public were on Friday removed from the Mookgopong Magistrate's Court's public gallery for the appearance of six murder-accused minors, as required by the Child Justice Act.

The court applied the act, which advocates that the case be held in camera as the accused are minors.

The six were arrested on Thursday for the murders of three children in Mookgopong, Limpopo in August.

The accused were aged between 12 and 14, and face three charges of murder and rape.

Five of the six are apparently homeless.

Brothers Bafana Kekana, 9, and Hosea Richard Kekana, 10, and their cousin Johana Kekana, 12, were found dead in Mookgopong (formerly Naboomspruit) on August 18.

They had been stoned to death. Bloodied stones, covered by a blanket and tree branches, were found near their bodies.

They were wearing their school uniforms and their hands and feet were bound with shoelaces.

The girl, Johanna, had been raped before being killed.

The decision by the court to empty the public gallery was met with anger from the public.

Josephine Lekalakala, who arrived early to book herself a seat, said she was not aware that a law would prevent people from observing the case in court.

"I do not know anything about the Child Act and do not care about that, I am here to see the suspects."

@ toby.strong.9 - Just ignore him... I do not even waste my energy replying to atheists like him. They always want to insult Christians like myself by telling us that we believe in fairy tales and that God does not exist etc etc... It's funny that we Christians never make fun of them for having no religion, but yet they find it compelling to make fun of us. I guess they are seeking for that one answer from the Christians that will prove that God exists so that they could also convert to Christianity. Unfortunately, we cannot prove it. We just believe full-heartedly that our Saviour does exist!

SA has become so violent that the perpertrators has become role models.Remember what COSATU did in JHB city centre during their marches through SAMWU? AMCU in Marikana? NUM in Burgersfort,Limpopo? SADTU? We are so violent, it is not surprising to breed violent offsprings. This country needs cleansing and leadership that will guide and behave as mentors. As a young person I need to pick someone in the community and say that I want to be that person. There is none at the moment. There is no use to study for you can be successful by getting tenders from govt and make a lot of money. Then why go to school if Matome from next door is rich despite not getting beyond Primary Level ( eish by the way thus OBE, no CAPS have those Bantu Education levels ). Like those kids, we are all dead. Peace Unto their Souls!!!!
