DUT SRC want Jews who don’t support Palestine out

2015-02-11 18:22

Durban - The Durban University of Technology's student representative council has called for the expulsion of all Jewish students who do not support the Palestinian cause, the Daily News reported on Wednesday.

The demand was sent to the university management, according to the afternoon daily.

The newspaper quoted SRC secretary Mqondisi Duma as saying: "As the SRC we had a meeting and analysed international politics.

"We took the decision that Jewish students, especially those who do not support the Palestinian struggle, should deregister."

The university's vice chancellor Prof Ahmed Bawa told the newspaper the demand was "totally unacceptable".

O but blacks can't be rasists, or according to the EFF at Tuks they can't...

      Senzo Myeni - 2015-02-11 19:22

I am a former SRC President in this institution and it amazes me how current student leadership can choose to jump into international politics indtead of dealing with issues affecting thier constuency @DUT Issues of student accomodation, stuend fees, crime afdecting students on campus, social issues affecting the students and the youth of this country How are the students affected by the National challenges affecting students such as load shedding and more? The African continent is also facing so many challenges requiring support and lobbying of our country's youth.

  • Mike Woolnough - 2015-02-11 18:39

What makes the SRC think they have the right to make any demand? They should disband the council and tell them to rather focus on their studies.

  • John N Duncan - 2015-02-11 18:54

The DUT SRC smells a little NAZI.

  • John N Duncan - 2015-02-11 18:55

  • Jack Phakathi - 2015-02-11 19:08

I am absolutely stunned, what happed to freedom of choice? Is there a place for such divisive minds in our public institutions? This is worse than that rape incident at that boarding school in the Northen Cape.It is an attack on the whole Jewish community.

  • Brian Liebesman - 2015-02-11 19:46

Typical of Nazi racism that exists in the so called centres of learning today. Disband and expelled the SRC

  • Zak Newton - 2015-02-11 19:47

The intolerance of the SRC should be investigated. Those found wanting to be sanctioned. Even dismissed from the campus for their intolerance

  • Girlah Pela - 2015-02-11 19:48

Cheap politicking to say the least.

  • Chris Du Bruyn - 2015-02-11 20:05

Why are you deleting comments on this issue???????

  • dario.siefe - 2015-02-11 20:16

Once again our enlightened wise brothers demand, demand, demand. If they applied the same energy spent on spewing cr#p to their studies they would not be demanding the passing percentage be lowered. You are at an educational facility to learn. Leave politics to the other dummies.

  • dario.siefe - 2015-02-11 20:19

So where, news 24 is my comment?

  • Petrus Lefras Uys Coetzee - 2015-02-11 20:22

Isn't this what happened in universities to members who supported the ANC in the apartheid era. Have we gone full circle then

  • Suthveer Sing - 2015-02-11 20:28

These guys are living on a pipe dream- they can't make demand especially racist ones like these

  • shiney.alexandergeorge - 2015-02-11 20:30

The SRC obviously has not analyzed our constitution. It grants citizens the right to freedom of association.

  • Lang Hendrik - 2015-02-11 20:33

Now this is racism in it's truest form.

  • Dennis van Aarde - 2015-02-11 20:39

  • Lee-Ann Smit - 2015-02-11 21:35

How sad that someone with a Tertiary education can make such an ignorant statement. Has this individual not understood our constitution? Maybe instead of insisting that new students learn Conversational Zulu they should get all students to read and understand our constitution.

  • Paulson Meziri - 2015-02-11 21:37

Stupid bastards that have forgotten why they were in school. They can't be more hater of Jews than Hitler than murdered 2 million Jews. They just heard of freedom nothing knowing how it is fought. I don't know what South Africa thinks they are, another United States of America.

  • johan.nel.712 - 2015-02-12 01:16

The time has come that all of these disruptive SRCs are disbanded, put back in their place, the classroom, and taken out of Council and Executive Management structures. They are interfering with students who want to attend classes and wasting hard earned parents' money. Either they need to fit in or move out or we'll destroy our learning institutions.

  • David Rhodes - 2015-02-12 07:52

"We had a meeting and analysed international politics." As if international politics can be analysed in one meeting; these students have so much to learn.

  • Hendrik Jakobus Pienaar - 2015-02-12 10:56

Pathetic. What are they teaching in Durban?
