Dad held for death of boy found in bin

2012-12-11 17:40

Johannesburg - The father of a boy found dead in a dustbin in Soweto has been arrested for the murder, police said on Tuesday.

The boy, 11, from Jabavu, had been missing for a week, but was found face-down in a dustbin on Saturday night, police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said.

"Yesterday we reconstructed the crime scene and uncovered some clues."

Blood was found on the father's clothing and next to the dustbin. The boy's neck and legs had been broken.

"That led us to change the case from inquest to murder."

The man, 47, was arrested and had been detained at the Moroka police station.

He would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

I heard thé boy was found dead in a dustbin after reported missing for a week. As much as I know Soweto dustbin rubbish are collected weekly and you cannot go for a day or two without opening a dustbin. He must explain...

@jman Are you a idiot? who cares when the bins get emptied, the kid was found in a bin in the garage, and even if the dad is a fruitcake he would not be so stupid as to put in the street for collection. Besides he should be dealt with "internally"

May this young boys soul rest in peace. No matter what he did. He did not deserve to die in this horrific brutal manner. OMG by his own father !!! What next ? Bring back the death penalty. Then only will SA have peace again.

  • godesha - 2012-12-11 18:41

If he did this terrible thing, I would like to ask him how he can murder his own child and throw him in a dustbin like he was a piece of rubbish?

  • keith.recore - 2012-12-11 18:53

All I can think of is this young boy's last moments alive. How incredibly sad his brutal end was the last thing he remembered. Mthokozisi, your young hopeful face is burned onto my brain. I am so sorry this is how you were treated. Such a precious gift, so easily discarded. For a few days your name will be remembered, perhaps this will be enough to prevent someone else being harmed in the manner you were.
