Dagga gives horse power, court hears

2012-10-10 11:35

Johannesburg - Dagga makes horses strong, a Gauteng court has heard, Beeld reported on Wednesday.

This was the defence of 44-year-old Ntai Mokoena in the Vereeniging Magistrate's Court on Monday. He appeared in connection with the possession of 68g of the illegal substance.

He told Magistrate Leon Ferreira the dagga was not intended for himself, but for his horse, because "it makes him strong".

When Ferreira asked Mokoena if he ever used dagga, he replied that he never indulged, as "I'm not made for that kind of thing".

The dagga had been concealed in a plastic bag, inside an empty container.

Mokoena's horse story resulted in suppressed laughter from the public gallery, but luckily for him, he was not saddled with a prison term. Ferreira let him go with a warning, as it was his first offence.

      tgif.wtfaw - 2012-10-10 12:07

      " HIGH HO " Silver ?

      christian.denyschen - 2012-10-10 12:22

Lol Brardley so true but I don't know about Chelsea.

      mfrater - 2012-10-10 12:42

Wow, what a waste of tax payer money. 68g of weed and there is a court case? The cops should have been the ones letting him off with the warning, spend more time finding the real criminals please.

      petrus.ngwenya.3 - 2012-10-10 12:43

"The dagga had been concealed in a plastic bag, inside an empty container." Well, if it had a plastic bag in it containing 68g dagga, was it still empty or am I being to philosophical when I am high?

      luthando.ncoyini - 2012-10-10 13:12

Bradley you are right man, when I see that my team is no longer playing well a puff or two gives them back the winning mentality, by the way mine is Bacelona.

      bradley.kecskes - 2012-10-10 13:28

Barca...who's team isn't Barca....when it comes to air ball they no good a bunch of shorties but then again on the ground they kill.

      harley.quin.334 - 2012-10-10 13:41

@petrus, thats funny dude, kind of like schroedingers dope, i could be high or not or both

  • willa.prinsloo - 2012-10-10 11:56

      jack.blacking.56 - 2012-10-10 13:49

68grams....for goodness sake!!! How about the cops arrest real criminals!!!

  • Andrea - 2012-10-10 12:05

Oh no, this is just unacceptable. If he said he gave it to his neighbour who is a builder (because it makes him strong and then he can work for longer without tiring) would the judgement be diffirent?

      Desilusionada - 2012-10-10 12:09

Well it happens to be true as far as the horse is concerned. Old trick used earlier years before doping tests to make horses win races....

      jason.sole.92 - 2012-10-10 12:15

At 68g his judgement was always going to be the same.

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-10-10 12:54

Because it is just weed woman. He didn't deal it. What would be the point of putting yet another person in prison for smoking a lil weed?

      abram.spamers - 2012-10-10 13:12

I just cannot see smoking weed as a true crime. A socially unacceptable act maybe... but please... a waste of time and money trying to enforce a pointless law. What would they have done differently... thrown him in jail with REAL criminals which would turn this otherwise completely normal person into a thug?

      nrgx.nrg - 2012-10-10 12:34

      carrot bong!

      thamsanqa.sibekomugabe - 2012-10-10 12:36

Don't roll just burn and let the horse inhale.

      bradley.kecskes - 2012-10-10 13:29

THC can also be consumed...ever heard of space cookies. "Man those pan cakes blew me away!"

      rontheogre - 2012-10-10 14:21

Easy! do it just like normal, but beware, you will have to take a drag and inhale now and then just to demonstrate, as the horse might forget how. It's a drag teaching animals new tricks!

  • wcslater - 2012-10-10 12:25

How can there be something in an "empty" container?

  • sarecen.smith - 2012-10-10 12:26

  • azande.futhi - 2012-10-10 12:46

HAHAHAHA this is a nice one in defense of himself. Rastafarians say legalise it (Marijuana, Weed, Instangu, Umya, Imbangu).

  • briana.scott - 2012-10-10 12:54

Really, this is what our police and courts waste their time on? 68g of weed! I guess the next charge will be from the SPCA for animal doping. what a joke, leave the man and his horse get goofed and enjoy life, what is the harm compared to all the mayhem in this country.

      azande.futhi - 2012-10-10 13:10

      the substance is illegal, remember?

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-10-10 13:24

And why is it illegal? Because America started a stupid, pointless War on Drugs, and all other countries followed suit.

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-10-10 13:24

Drinking too much water can kill a person. Should water be illegal too? Oh, but wait, weed has never ever killed a person.

      vambozha.mutemi.9 - 2012-10-10 13:49

the state of colorado in US could be the first to legalize it in a November ballot...lets hope it starts there coz am tired of looking for my supplier who sometimes doesnt have stock!

      azande.futhi - 2012-10-10 14:04

@wesley, i do not know the reason but what i know is that if you are caught with that stuff, you get arrested.

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-10-10 14:44

Yes Azande i know. It's pathetic. What a waste of tax payers money and police time.

      briana.scott - 2012-10-10 15:41

there are a whole lot more illegal and far more destructive things that go on that nobody gives a rats ass about. Just saying.... This man and his horse are not harming anyone.

  • mcebisi.ngubane - 2012-10-10 13:09

Marijuana is illegal but no ever heard of an overdose on marijuana. it only has side effects, hungry, happy and sleeping. Aspirin is perfectly legal but if you take 10 of that stuff, I bet you, it will be your last head ache. LEGALISE IT. HAHAHAHAHA

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-10-10 14:45

      ^ agreed

      sekwati.robinson - 2012-10-11 06:01

      kurt williams....

  • canna.discussions - 2012-10-10 14:12

If this substance is so dangerous where are the animal rights groups? The law sends some people to jail for 1g and others get off like this. It boils down to judges being able to impose their views when considering judgments. Imagine if you got arrested and sentenced for cannabis and then hear about this. Where is the democracy in that?

      sachasea - 2012-10-10 14:32

Only today a friend told me about some friends of hers who got stopped in their car recently by the police and were caught with dagga. After giving the police a bribe of R50 they were let go. The police didn't even bother confiscating the weed or searching their car. The law is an ass.

  • zelda.vos - 2012-10-10 16:24

A vet (Onsterpoort Pretoria) told me to feed canabis (small doses) to our horses for its a natural anti-bacterial, anti-inflammotary and ease and surpresses arthritis.

    Was it Herschelle Gibbs Horse

  • thembile.v.dunjana - 2012-10-10 23:02

this is really funny. but hey, in SA you gotta lie to get by, even if you were caught red handed you will still be called a suspect and further investigations have to be carried out. i dont know how many years in prison one could get if found guilty for possession of dagga but i research shows that it ranks 10th on the list of drugs that contribute to crime. it's not really that bad, that's why i love it so much

  • gregory.jurgens - 2012-10-10 23:36

The dagga had been concealed in a plastic bag, inside an empty container.\r\n. Seems the container was empty , after this reporter smoked the dagga.
