Cape Town - A hydroponic dagga laboratory was uncovered after a tip-off led police to a complex in Durbanville on Tuesday.

Authorities said drugs worth R500 000 were confiscated.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said officers responded to information received in the early hours of the morning about suspected drug-related activities in Sonstraal Heights.

"At approximately 04:30 they entered a residence in Tosca Crescent, in which they found a fully equipped hydroponic dagga laboratory," he said.

Dagga plants of various sizes, a large amount of dried dagga and other substances, to be examined, together with a substantial amount of cash were seized.

A 27-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested and will appear in the Bellville Magistrate's Court soon on drug related charges, Van Wyk said.
