Johannesburg - Dagga with an estimated street value of R750 000 was found at a house in Vaalview near Vanderbijlpark , Gauteng police said on Saturday.

Warrant Officer Kinnie Steyn said police acting on a tip-off found a large dagga hydro nursery inside the house on Friday night, no one was found at the house.

"The nursery is a highly advanced laboratory in which these dagga plants were cultivated."

Steyn said a Ford Lazer motor car was also confiscated.

No arrests were made.

LOl I cant understand why this makes news? Every second 'youngster' and others are either dealers or users. I am not saying I approve, (and I tried one puff once, MAJOR headache)....but there are serious issues that we should address. ALCOHOL !!!! now that is a killer..... In addition, cant undertand this lab etc. It grows like a 'weed'' hence the name. I used donkey manure once, bought from the local SPCA here, a few weeks later I had a glorious crop of 'weed'.....we laughed so, and destroyed it, imagine being caught?? "Granny gardener caught with crop of illegal dagga, in upmarket estate".......OY VEY!!! BTW it only became illegal in 1911. Here in SA.

  • crracker.crackerr - 2012-10-20 18:24

Legalize it. It is as valid a crutch and pasttime as all the other human habits, including assemblies of the well-off to fall into trancing singing and being transfixed by political speeches and other BS. Give everyone a chance to enjoy what nature offers. Maybe the police will be respected more if they stop trying to impose laws that are widely unpopular. Think how many opportunists taking advantage of the dagga prohibition will be eliminated if it can be legally planted and harvested in your very own backyard, or in the backyard of a family member or even acquiantance. Or even on the fringes of sports fields. Who does this world belong to anyway? Interesting to note that the food security in Southern Africa is getting very shaky. Dagga will help to keep the hunger pangs under control. We can't all be politicians and well-offs who have their particular ways of keep the tummy satisfied and under control.

      rodney.bevan.58 - 2012-10-20 20:55

Keep hunger pangs under control? Really? I used to get the munchies something awful! lmao!

      jaded.oldfart - 2012-10-20 21:36

i second rodney's comment -- it's more likely to lead to empty supermarket shelves...

Anyone have the GPS co-ordinates of the house?

  • arne.verhoef - 2012-10-20 18:31

It is not a laboratory. Stop making out like its some sort of drug theyre cooking up with boiling test tubes and crap. Legalise, regulate, uplift the disadvantaged. Interesting to note how the use of old apartheid laws was frowned upon in an earlier article. The prohibition of cannabis is one of them!

      kimard - 2012-10-20 18:38

yes one dont need a lab to grow this - they just sprout everywhere from a seed! besides its a fact that dagga helps MS patients

      crracker.crackerr - 2012-10-20 18:45

One is starting to disbelieve the official versions. Always that little self-promotion. A laboratory to do what? "Laboratory": A workplace for the conduct of scientific research. It was probably no more than some convenience facility to add value and distribtability to the product. How';s that for a more suitable description? Legalize it so the police don't have to embarrass themselves.

      steveroodt - 2012-10-20 22:40

Hydro labs can cost up to R30 000 to build in a house there are thermal control units day night monitor switches special neon lights which emit red or blue lights to enhance the THC special fertilizer extraction units. all walls ceilings and windows sealed with roofing plastic they can produce a full grown plant in three months

  • juannepierre - 2012-10-20 20:02

Legalise. It's a plant, you put in the ground, it grows and if you happen to be near it when you burn it there are some effects. I can smell the job opportunity in a place like south Africa. It's shown positive side effects for adults with epilepsy - just saying.

I've never understood the issue around weed. I get why cocaine, heroine etc are illegal, but weed? Nah man let people smoke. I've also wondered how do the cops know the worth of the weed? Do they have a man who tests the strain and how much he'd sell it for and then they make calculations?

  • mpho.ramoba.7 - 2012-10-21 07:41

Smoking is dangerous,it is that's why, they arrest people.I wonder that those people were arrested those who selling dagga.they must be arrested because they are against the law.

      christian.denyschen - 2012-10-21 08:15

Your Stupidness should be against the law bru please explain the dangers that you are talking about?

  • loftycrane - 2012-10-21 10:42

Dagga would be of almost no value if it was not illegal. Making it illegal creates value for those willing to break the law. If it were made legal the only ones who would lose out would be the pushers.
