Pietermaritzburg - The murder trial of former Pietermaritzburg policewoman Tembelihle Ngcobo has been set down for sentencing proceedings to start on December 11.

Ngcobo admitted shooting dead her former lover, policeman Bongani Lembethe, in Prestbury in March 2014, while she was pregnant with his child.

In her plea, she said the shooting was the result of an “emotional storm” due to their relationship problems.

Following her conviction in the high court, however, the state and defence reported that neither a psychologist nor a probation officer was able to obtain coherent information from Ngcobo in interviews.

These were aimed at assisting the court to determine a suitable sentence for her.

As a result, she was referred for a period of mental observation.

Yesterday, state advocate Candy Kander said Ngcobo was now co-operating with a psychologist and social workers, and asked the court to set the matter down for evidence in relation to sentencing to start on December 11.
