Delay in Joburg bills

Johannesburg - There will be a delay in the delivery of municipal accounts in Johannesburg because of a strike by post office workers, the city said on Friday.

"Customers will be receiving their monthly statements late and, in some cases, after the due date," revenue department spokesperson Kgamanyane Maphologela said in a statement.

"The City of Johannesburg would like to apologise to all its customers who have been adversely affected by these delays."

He said residents could get the balance on their accounts from any customer service centre or make payments equal to the monthly average they had been paying over the last six months.

This would ensure their accounts did not fall into arrears.

Post office contract workers are demanding that their contract positions become permanent jobs.

    but the threat to cut off water and electricity immediately is put on your gate promptly!!!! how is that allowed????? go City of Johannesburg stunning job once again!!!!

      "Just pay the usual amount". In the mean time you have a water leak and when the next bill arrives you discover an opening balance of R50 000! Is that legal?

      I almost bought a house in Joburg, the chaos surrounding this billing crisis was enough to change my mind. Pretoria has far much less issues.

    Stop cutting trees to issue the accounts. Stop feeding the Post Office with distribution orders. Publish bills on website and send emails or SMSs like most proper businesses. Become customer centric!

      I absolutely agree... there really is no reason or excuse for not being able to offer multiple billing options.

      City of Johannesburg actually DO send via email. Haven't received a paper one in months as mine get emailed :)

    I haven't received a bill in 2 years and six months, you think they'll blame that on the strike?
