Dewani in court for health assessment

2012-07-30 12:25

Cape Town - Honeymoon murder accused Shrien Dewani will appear before a UK court this week for a health assessment and not an extradition hearing, it was reported on Monday.

A decision on whether he would be ordered to return to Cape Town to stand trial was expected to be announced at a later date, the Cape Times reported.

Dewani has repeatedly denied arranging the contract killing of his 28-year-old wife, Anni, who was shot in an apparent car hijacking while on their honeymoon in Cape Town in November 2010.

In March, Britain's High Court temporarily halted Dewani's extradition on mental health grounds, saying it would be "unjust and oppressive".

At the time, the court said he would be extradited to South Africa as soon as he was fit. Dewani is being treated in a mental health hospital in his hometown of Bristol, western England.

According to the report, Anni's family said on their Facebook page [Anni Hindocha (aka Dewani) - What really happened]: "It's important to note that this is a procedural case management hearing, not the extradition hearing. That will be a further hearing.

"The key issues at the current hearing will be what parameters Judge [Howard] Riddle lays down for monitoring and assessing Dewani's alleged 'mental illness' symptoms."

Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila previously announced Dewani would appear at the Westminster Crown Court on Tuesday.

I agree but he is obviously not innocent, hence the many postponements.

Wish this story could just come to an end - give closure to the family of the deceased. Dragging on way too long.

He was not mentally ill when he very cleverly arranged her murder. I suppose he prefers bangers and mash for luch apposed to pap and fish

in SA the oh I'm sick, I'm dying defense has worked well for zumas bum chums, dewani is following their example - f'ing coward, he should never have married this poor girl in the first place. if he's innocent he has nothing to fear, but given the levels of fear evident in his soul-less eyes, I'd say he has a lot to answer for.

      cynthia.smith.71619533 - 2012-07-30 14:57

Of course he is as guilty as the day is long. Hope we have some Indian inmates who will make him feel very welcome. LOL. He probably thought our Police were idiots and he would get away with it. Even his Father-in-Law though he was innocent. Well our Police are not idiots as he found out to his detriment.

he was well enough to organise the murder of his wife - so he should face the charges. he looked perfectly normal at the wedding, now he walks around looking like a wounded dog. he will lie forever and never tell the truth. there is no way the SA killers could have cooked up a story with so many details - where there is smoke there is fire.

I'm not surprised that this pr**k is in a mental hospital. His conscience must be driving him mad. Look how miserable the poor darling looks. Shame. Was it really worth it to "alledgedly" have your very beautiful wife murdured? I hope you never ever enjoy another peaceful night's sleep you slimy creep and I hope her beautiful face haunts you for the rest of your miserable life (which by the way you don't deserve).
