Dewani killer Mngeni expressionless

2012-11-19 14:10

Cape Town - Xolile Mngeni stood expressionless as a Western Cape High Court judge found him guilty on Monday of Swedish bride Anni Dewani's murder.

His family watched wide-eyed from the gallery above as Judge Robert Henney handed down his judgment.

Hordes of photographers crowded around Mngeni when he walked back down to the cells, using his walking frame.

Henney found Mngeni, 25, guilty of robbery with aggravating circumstances, premeditated murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He was acquitted on a kidnapping charge as this was executed as part of a single chain of events leading up to the murder.

Dewani was killed in Gugulethu on November 13 2010 and her body found the next day.

"The State has proven its case beyond reasonable doubt," Henney said.

"The case against the accused is overwhelming and the accused could barely avoid the avalanche of evidence from crashing down on him."

@Michelle since you have nothing to do.. my earlier comment was deleted. Please investigate and present to me findings and recommendation asap, thanks in advance doll :-)

Thandeka it was deleted because it was just typical racist nonsense.

      patrick.mbense - 2012-11-19 15:37

=== Actions speak louder than words ==== Inaction is a pointer to guilt === The innocent, caring, loving and faithful bridegroom, on hearing the judgement -- would have been sitting in the front row of the court. They would have needed six power men to hold him back ... but hey, it's easier to sit 8,000 km away whilst your saviours plot a way out for you.

  • mrp721 - 2012-11-19 14:56

I hope he rots in jail for the rest of his natural life, but I see him getting out for some or other reason, probably some new illness that will be terminal etc... Now what about the savage Shrien Dewani who was the "mastermind" behind it all....

  • vashika.chimmunchlam - 2012-11-19 15:08

From the beginning, the evidence against hin was overwhelming. If he thinks his brain tumor was anything, lol wait till what karma has in store for him. His pain and suffering only begins now.

  • tyrone.hunt85 - 2012-11-19 15:09

Shame, 25 years old, destroyed his own, took another's. What did he think was going to happen. Next up, Shrien Dewani.

  • Tebogo - 2012-11-19 15:15

This story only has 18 comments. Zuma's nkandla house has like comments for days. Lol

      Deon - 2012-11-19 15:44

Nkandla story is better than a 20 year old soapie, every day more lies. Newest lie: "I have a bond" - You can not have a bond over property that you rent (They are renting from a trust).

      sandra.j.rennie - 2012-11-19 16:06

Did he qualify under the NCA. I don't think so. Not with corruption and so on, you can't get credit !!

  • shamiela.naidoo - 2012-11-19 16:10

Hallelujah... but the main culprit is the one we want to see fall, Shrien must return to SA and face the music then Anni’s family can be at peace and move on.

  • robqb - 2012-11-19 16:51

You are all "happy" because this S.O.B got life, or near enough, for murder! Do you realise that our taxes are going to be spent on feeding and clothing this low life? Bring back the rope and do an Eastwood. Hang 'em high!

  • christopher.m.lowe - 2012-11-19 17:20

Hang the bastard! Four down and one to go. Time to face the music, Shrien Dewani, you murdering coward.

  • george.mnisi.31 - 2012-11-19 20:00

Pity an innocent life is lost. He is now going to get free meals in prison. These people should be detected and flashed out by communities before they commit these crime. These are not first time offenders but hardened crimininals whom community members are aware of. The community must take responsibility for the high rate of crime in ZA. Enough is enough. The community must ask critical questions in that why an unemployed would live beyond his or her means. Obviously the answer is this people are involved in criminal activies. Don't wait until it happens to your sister or brother.

      gavin.lott.9 - 2012-11-19 20:12

You gotta vote right too man..

      george.mnisi.31 - 2012-11-19 21:33

Gavin, everything to you is about DA. Guess what? Fighting crime in communities has nothing to do with the DA or politics. Oh! By the way, the crime happened in a DA controlled province just to refresh your insignificant memory. I have no ambitions to vote for a whites only with black sprinkles party. I'm a die hard Black South African who will not succumb to preassure from people who murdered, abused and even belittled fellow citizens. Now disguised as the DA. Alliance means a group of people or organizations coming together for a common purpose. Eh! Which democratic organizations formed the DA in your opinion?

      gavin.lott.9 - 2012-11-20 07:15

The DA don't control the police buddy. Your points are flawed & just typical black on white racism. HZ, Lndiwe & Patricia were not national party members! they fought against apartheid...so your argument is nothing but bs !

  • ntemi.mark - 2012-11-19 22:41
