Sasolburg - Newly elected ANCWL president Bathabile Dlamini had a strong warning for maintenance defaulters and men who abuse women, at a Women's Day rally in Sasolburg on Sunday.

"Men must think before they abuse women in South Africa," she told a crowd of 20 000 people, mainly women, attending the rally.

"The ANC Women's League will work towards making legal action less expensive and plans to mobilise to resist any form of violence against women.

"We are going to fill the courts as part of [taking action against] violence against against women," she said.

"We call on all fathers to pay and support their children, and if they don't want to do that we are going to bring them to book."

Emcee for the event, Minister in the Presidency Susan Shabangu, echoed her sentiments.

"You must start now to support your children, otherwise you are in trouble."

Dlamini, who is also Minister of Social Development, was elected new president of the ANCWL at its conference last week, over previous president Angie Motshekga, who is Minister for Basic Education.
