Doctors confirm Mandela to stay in hospital

2012-12-24 17:35

Johannesburg - Former president Nelson Mandela will be spending Christmas Day in hospital, the presidency said on Monday.

Spokesperson Mac Maharaj said they received confirmation of this from his doctors.

President Jacob Zuma sent messages of well-wishes to the Mandela family and urged South African to keep him in their prayers.

“We urge all South Africans to keep Tata uppermost in their thoughts at every place of worship or entertainment tomorrow on Christmas Day, and throughout the festive season," said Zuma.

"We also humbly invite all freedom loving people around the world to pray for him. He is an ardent fighter and will recover from this episode with all our support."

The former statesman was said to be responding well to treatment as his stay in a Pretoria hospital extended into its third week.

He was originally flown to a hospital in Pretoria from his Eastern Cape home at Qunu on8  December. He was diagnosed with a lung infection and also underwent gallstone surgery.

His current stay in hospital is his longest since he was freed over two decades ago.

Mandela has a history of lung problems having suffered from tuberculosis towards the end of the 27 years he spent in prison.

Zuma paid a visit to Mandela on Saturday and again urged the nation to keep praying for the global icon.

I don't know why they just don't let Mandela go to his grave peacefully. He's done so much for South Africa already,so if he has to go then just let him move on please.Let our national hero go with dignity and with respect and stop all this secrecy that makes people so worried about.

And of course the Drs can't release him because he is already in the mortuary which is closed until after Christmas. Kep the spin going Mac the Lie.

Mr Mandela's recent health worries had been deafening to put it mildly, but the ANC's deliberate attempts to give out as little information on how he truly is by withholding information has made some started to fear the worse about him quite frankly. Has this Mangaung conference and all it's subsequent BS meant news on Mandela were being jeopardized I wonder? Many African people have got TB or HIV/Aids and such for example, but for goodness sake this is a national hero you reporting on so please why all the secrecy?

      themba.thwala.775 - 2012-12-24 18:29

      How does one 'jeorpadize news'?
